shawnhu
I wonder if they may have had MORE fun if crossbows were allowed? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
Bow Addict
There are use of crossbows allowed for some. The gentleman on the left end is allowed to use one. Some of the others use bows equipped with drawlocks.
Bow Addict
Btw.The hunt is hosted by a very generous family in Edmeston NY Edited October 7, 2013 by Bow Addict
shawnhu
If this happened this year, that gentleman on the left most likely hunted illegally. Crossbows are illegal this year. Was there a special exclusive permit from the DEC for this hunt? shawnhu
I simply asked a question and stated that it MIGHT be illegal to hunt with a crossbow this year. If this was a legal hunt, all to you for providing this for these fine folks. If not, it should be discouraged to keep others from thinking its OK to hunt with an illegal implement. I simply asked if it was sanctioned by the DEC or not. There's no need to get nasty. Instead of getting all defensive about it, tell us more of how you were able to make this legal so others can benefit from it. bowaholic
I met a guy in a wheelchair at Gander Mountain last year all decked out in camo so I started talking to him and he said that evening he was going to be hunting in Edmeston (I imagine its the same place). He was pumped to be getting out in the woods. I wish I knew how he did there. What an amazing thing those kind of places do for others! I wish more people had hearts like they do and help those in need... instead it seems like we are running into more and more heartless, self-centered and inconsiderate people these days. But stories like this make me have hope in people honestly

shawnhu
Shawnu, google nys dec handicapped bowhunter regulations. I'll go do that, thanks for the pointer. I didn't mean any offense to you, or the hunters. I hope crossbow comes back for this very reason. Good luck, and keep doing what you're doing. shawnhu
http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8312.html Here's a link I found after taking Bow Addict's advice. Maybe that'll shed some light on the subject. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
NFA-ADK
Well it is simple as this; If the DEC gave him a permit he is legal, because he is in a wheelchair I am sure HE IS... So enough with the bandwagon lets hang him for not knowing handicap regulations... But I just looked up the regulations and it says he can only qualify with a breathing tube to shoot, if he can pull a trigger he will have to use a bow and lock. Who knows maybe he qualifies... Otherwise I think this is a worthy cause I love to be involved with... This is the only way to have a crossbow this year apparently... Breathing tube only... http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/25022.html I see no regulation that says handicap are excluded except for the above mentioned... http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/25018.html They all had fun and a few got lucky, awesome!!! Hope they do it again during rifle season!!!
