hello my name is jerry  I live in suffolk county ny  and I  have been hunting  for about 4o years  in the  sullivan county area. I have been hunting out of my cabin in monticello since 1999 with  pretty good luck, my land has a load of deer on it so I am pretty selective on what I take, Im not crazy about venison  so I only take bucks. I  presently hunt by myself  but maybe I will meet a future hunting  partner  on this site who knows  It seems like there are some real sharpies here, we can always stand to learn another trick or  two looking forward to meeting everyone.

Welcome joining us.  From the sound of it, you drive right past me to get to your cabin.  I-87 to Route 17  west right?

I occasionally head up to Mongaup Pond to go camping and check out the fish hatchery in Sullivan County near Livingston Manor.

I have yet to hunt Catskills -  but want to try that at some point. Beautiful countryside there.

Good luck out there.  Have a safe and enjoyable season.

Hi Jerry,

Just took a ride over toward that way to leaf peep last weekend.   I live in Poughkeepsie and took a run over Minnewaska, over through Ellenville and I was going to keep going over toward Liberty but the color just wasn't all that great.

Depending on what happens with the casino's you could end up a tycoon if you have property around Monticello. :D

Good luck

hello two track   yes you do go right past me going to livingston manor.  The mongaup pond area is a very popular hunting spot, the place I had before  monticello was  on anderson rd liv  man  up above the covered bridge campsite,  hunted there for around 12 or 13 years, I still hunt there for a day or two to give monticello  a rest  that area has a LOT  of productive state land  you schould try there

How much property and how much pressure?  Still hunting is an extremely rewarding hunt. Granted, nowhere near as successful in most cases and it takes a lot more involvement by you to know the area and even the deer but what a rush when you succeed. Great fun but you need a good sized area to practice it.

hello steve , I  own 15 acres but there is a load of adjacent land I hunt, my property  is a natural funnel at the top is the road  and  houses,  at the bottom  is a  big pond  and my cabin, so if they move threw they have to pass me and if they want to cross the road they go up my land to cross the road to the nearest  finger of  woods between the homes.  as for pressure  I have NEVER  encountered  a bow hunter , and I once saw a a gun hunter pass thru  about  6 years ago!  my drive way  is 1600 feet long  and my cabin  can not be seen from the road  on occasion  I have been known to sit on my porch and hunt lol  my best  stand is only 40 yards from the cabin hell ive run back to make a sandwich and get a hot coffee and go back  talk about being spoiled
