Benelli SBE 2 vs Beretta a400 Extreme

Recommended Posts

I have the SBE2.  I have had problems with it jamming after the first shot.  Sometimes it happens, sometimes it's fine.  From the little bit or research I've done, it seems that this is a relatively common problem with the SBE2 and can be fixed by a gunsmith by swapping out a spring or something.  Other than that, I love the gun.

Hands down the Beretta. That SBE comes out of battery very easily and will not fire. Can't tell you how many times I have seen it happen. My buddy is looking to sell his SBE right now if favor of the Beretta for that reason. Also, the Beretta, which is a gas system rather than the inertia, will recoil less.

All I can say about this is that I have carried mine hundreds of miles across Wyoming, Ontario and Livingston Counties and never, yes never had it come out of "battery" in 13 years of pretty serious spring turkey hunting,  probably 5 years of goose hunting the early season and a little duck hunting each October.

I'm a lefty shooting a RH Benelli and walk with it slung over my left shoulder.  I can guarantee that the bolt lever has banged against my vest and box call pouch a zillion times and never had a problem at all .

I have had the cartridge drop lever release a loaded round onto the carrier prematurely but Benelli's are designed to deal with that no issue.

Don't know Lawdwaz, Lucky maybe? I could only report my experiences. I used to guide, so I have seen it happen to a bunch of different guys guns. My buddy who I hunt with A LOT for ducks and geese has it happen all the time. At least 6 times this season alone. Conservatively, I have probably seen it happen 20 plus times. With multiple SBE's. Even Benelli acknowledges the problem. There new shotgun addresses that issue of coming out of battery. Nothing worse than freezing your azz off, waiting patiently, and when it comes time to shoot, nothing. He watches me double and triple all the time with my Beretta Xtrema.

I have a SBE2 for two years now that I use for waterfowling in tough Northeast conditions.and have no issues.I can say however if you put a shell in the chamber and do not press the button and let it slam home you can create a problem.Do not open the action...put a shell in..hold the charging handle.. and try to close the action. It MUST SLAM HOME and you will not experience any problems.press the little red button near the trigger....open action till it clicks open... and load your shell.Inertia guns are different than gas guns..I own many guns and I can say I much prefer the cleaner action and way less moving parts ..no rings, springs and wing a dings...

Even if you let the action slam closed, it can come out of battery easily. There is an article on it in the latest Shooting Times magazine where Benelli knew it was a problem and fixed it with the new ETHOS shotgun. Its called the easy locking system. I'm not making this up. Do a internet search on the " benelli click".

Hmmmm...Kinda sounds like an M-1...Designed to have that action SLAM shut..

I have never fired a Benelli..My only experience with one was a few years ago hunting pheasants in Iowa, one of my partners had an SBE...It was basically a one shot semi, because it would usually jam after the first shot..He is also not a very good wingshot, so he didn't kill many birds.

This guy is a very intelligent man. He retired as the head administrator for a large school district in the Rochester area, and his PENSION is in six figures. However, he knows CRAP about guns..

When he first bought his SBE he mounted a red dot sight on it and took it on a very expensive Osceola gobbler hunt. He shot at and missed a big gobbler because he neglected to SIGHT IN the red dot prior to the hunt. He thought you could just mount it and go hunting.

On a western elk hunt, he climbed to the top of the mountain on opening day of elk season , attempted to load his rifle, and the cartridges would not chamber...It turned out that the ammo he had bought for his .300 Win mag rifle at Cabela's in Nebraska was .300 Weatherby Mag, instead of .300 Win mag.

Due to this, I hesitate to blame the failure to function on his Benelli...Who knows WHAT he may have done wrong ?
