Ya a troll that has more hunting knowledge and whitetail knowledge than you ever will. That is shown by the pm's i get from some of the real people/hunters on this site. Some have gained their first book buck shot on the park last year after asking me where some good places to hunt may be or the 3 that have found themselves a place here for some great turkey hunting or the other half dozen that wants a farm tour so they can see some great animals and maybe start their own farm. Dont know how me spreading some of my knowledge to other hunters to being superhero-ish but this shows that jokes like you that dont have the drive or ability to go out and get the best that can be had are the most jealous type, which shows clearly in your post but this thread shows clearly the other 2 or 3 that are just like ya and shows up in many posts on here. So you keep to the political bullsh!t that you always spew and let the hunters in the know talk about whitetails!
stubby68
Merlot The park is 8M. Four you showed me a short pole with what 9 deer gotten by 7 guys? That is not alot of deer,8 or 9 deer for 3 guys is a lot of deer or 15 or 16 for 7 guys but what you got is a few deer with a lot of guys. You were the one talking about all the big bucks you get so I should you some of mine then you said they were small and you would let them go so don't say monsters mean nothing when you say those would be let go when they are bigger then the ones on the poll that you guys got. For what it matters those deer were killed by 5 guys out of the group and 3 were still in the back of my truck. The bucks in that pic were taken by those that burned their either sex tag on the last day of bow and they were still mature deer!!! Regardless,That does not matter, you said there were no deer down there. That place is still loaded with deer if you know how to find deer where they live in a certin area. If you read my post you will see where i said they were NICE ny bucks but would not get shot where at times it has taken us 7 hours to get a 12 and 10 point out of the area we were in. A ridge or two from the road and a tag to burn then yes one of the guys may plug one. Just not worth the work to shot a 120in buck miles from the truck when in time one can be shot and picked up with a wheeler. Not real hard to find that size buck. I have to point out that the more you respond to this guy, the more BS he will continue spewing. Understand that he needs this kind of nonsense. It apparently is the only way he gets through the day. I would suggest that you just leave him babbling off in a corner as the others here have done. Don't feed the troll.

stubby68
ok one last response. In success times many you said those 9 deer were gotten the last 3 days of bow and first 2 of gun. there are 9 deer in pic you said more in your truck.Did you run out of film? You post one pic and then just say there are more and I am suppose to believe you. Further down you then said total was 16 deer for 7 guys again no pic of 16 deer. Even if there was that is only 16 deer over 5 days by 7 guys. That is about 2 deer apiece in 5 days. Doesn't prove a lot of deer.Infact that is a pritty low number for 7 guys if the deer are over populated. We useto be abel to take 9 deer out with 4 guys in one day. And back then no one complained there too many deer or that there were no big bucks the deer numbers were fine and the big bucks were quite commen. Maybe you can't remember the good days of hunting but many of use can and we can remember how the dec has screwed thing up and continue to

Sorry but i remember way back with the party permits and i remember to 100 or so inbred vermin walking the roads at any givin time of the day. Sorry but thats not hunting for some of us. That is sickening. Now there are still piles of deer on the park and they are big healthy animals which shows in the pic. I could blow this site of with pics of great bucks taken off the park and my property but why bother. Some jacka$$ would just say they are farm bucks or some stupid reply. You talk of only 16 deer and 7 guys when fact is all those 7 didnt kill deer but who cares. The ones that run their mouths on here about what we get are the same ones that dont see that many deer in years of hunting. I will help ya out though. If you want years gone by hunting just park your truck just inside the Castile entrance and walk in the pines right there. Set yourself down right next to Everett's alfalfa field and blast away at those little guys coming across out of the safety zone. You can also do the same there on the Pankow farm. Never a shortage of deer there!

Why is it that Ny would not take a lesson from some other states and have something like..A tag a day in the high deer numbered area's? Take a doe, report and show tag when buying you next tag. If a hunter wanted 10 does then he could pay for them. If a guy wanted to manage his property and take out 40 does then he could pay for them. The state would make more money, the hunter would be happy and the herd would be healthy.

growalot
Here's the deal.....I ,as you all know, have little confidence in the DEC on many fronts..that out there, I'm in one of the it's raining doe tag areas and one of the don't hold your breath too long on that second tag areas...The other day I caught 4 mature doe on my cams and you could see that they had dry bags...so predation...miscarried ...car hits who knows...still lots of fawns around....now I mentioned I thought the week of 15-25 below zero days this winter would have an effect on births...it may have. But trying to predict fawn drops or fawn deaths due to weather is impossible...well perhaps Tug hill is the exception...if the weather guys have a difficult time with weather predictions day to day...the DEC certainly can't 6mos in advance....yet magic #'s on this are part of the equation are they not? I believe it's such advanced input of magic #'s that have bitten them in the past. So if something is just this side of broken, it is just lazy, crazy or incompetent not to at least consider other options in calculating herd density. Doc
So if something is just this side of broken, it is just lazy, crazy or incompetent not to at least consider other options in calculating herd density. JMO sp The problem is that when it comes to estimating herd size and density, we are not exactly over-run with options. And when I say options, I am talking about practical options that the DEC can find resources for. I am no apologist for the DEC by any means, but as little confidence as I have in their statistical manipulations, I can't for the life of me come up with a better way of estimating deer density, or the impacts because of weather, predation and other mortality issues. And with all the volumes of opinions that have been thrown around on the subject, I have yet to hear anyone else have any better ideas. So while I can pretty much guess that they don't often get it right, and have seen evidence of that in the past, there is nothing positive that I can suggest as a remedy. But I sure would like to hear what others have to suggest as a practical herd density estimation tool.

growalot
Want a suggestion ...here's one..they put out 2 publications and I think had a TV spot at one point..may be wrong .but anyways ..at the very least they could show hunters that they are trying to do something better and gather as much information on other DNRs across the country with SIMILAR or close to it, densities...populations and weather ..ones that have programs that seem to be working. Let us SEE what they have gathered and point out what could possibly be incorporated or even not, and the reasons why...at the very least...it would get many off their backs... ncountry
I think that we as hunters ,realizing the system isn't perfect, need to take some responsibility in the managing of our deer herds. For example,. In my home area ,6a I could easily see the decline of deer #s even before the DEC caught on and finally eliminated dmps. Just because it was legal to do so I chose to not take the #s that were permitted me. Meanwhile many did not and yet are still complaining about the lack of deer.HELLO.... On the other hand during our Letchworth trip, I make a pile out of them..lol. When I can see 20-30 doe in a sit then shooting a few isn't going to hurt. 5 miles deeper into the park I have a hard time seeing any deer at times. I wouldn't shoot a doe out of those spots even if it wasn't a b#$%$ to drag them out..
Four Season Whitetail's
How about they start with knowing how many deer are killed a year before they worry about the herd size. I just now had a guy here looking at the deer and talking hunting, he says he has for years applied and received doe tags only to fill them out saying he killed a deer and reported such. I have heard and know of many that fill and never report. We dont, as hunters always do the best to help ourselves but i believe a check in for every deer killed and return of tags at the close of season. That would change the view of a few people!
growalot
Agreed NC..one year SIL . and I went to camp ..late winter /spring...deciding in stand sites..well 7 fresh fawn carcasses later I called the DEC...reported a winter kill of fawns..They took info...sure enough later a report for 8X came out ...DMP' s went down...it was a large portion of the unit...They had a list of land owners they contacted from what I was told...
