What a great day to be in the woods, 2 lone doe this am at 715/745 tons of fat squirrels running around and just had some turkey come through.

I never made it to the back stand...hit the woods and every 10 or so yards I'd kick up deer and get snorted...So I hit the stand in the pic with the 8pt I posted the other day..at day break a set of twins came out of the soybeans and disappeared behind me then over the ridge came 22 turkeys and they headed right to me...I stood and readied for a shot...but Mr. B. was nagging in my ear " don't you go shooting any hens"...So I stood there practicing moving with out getting picked off....15 mins later they finally feed off...there must be alot of soybeans on the ground they stayed a good while...20 mins. went by, I see 4 long beards and a jake coming in from the opposite direction...I saw them angleing toward me so stood and got ready when they went behind a pine...the biggest Tom was coming up a trail I'd cleared and about 70 yrds out stopped...I had not moved a muscle ...but he abruptly turned and lead the boys away and along the ridge line instead...he needs to go..just too smart, picking me out of the tree.

I hunted in a base layer and hoodie this morning very little wind ...but NOT south west like they said  N/W yes..I have remember to make sure which station for our town I look at...... we have several and it makes a huge difference in temps and wind direction and speed due to the hills and lakes.

The Kindle just doesn't work right and   I have decided not to feed the bullies and distracters...it's call the ignore feature. They only have power when fed.

Just moved to my other stand. I've been playing a game of cat and mouse with this buck for a week. He has been showing up every couple days at 1400, I'm ready for him today.

Nothing like a good game of chess. Hopefully you get to shout " checkmate "

Did not hunt, hung another stand in the thicket. Tons and tons of scrapes in there ! Goose hunters on neighboring land shooting up a storm, farmer harvesting beans along the thicket. Perfect time to slip a bit into thicket and hang this stand.

For anyone just getting ready to go out you might want to bring Dramamine.

That is great!! that is exactly what I saw this morning. A hawk swooped down and took a red squirrel right of the side of a tree as it was running down ..lol

I have never seen that before.

Well I just got settled in. Jumped one about a half mile from the stand. Then saw a fresh rub where I jumped one fairly close to my spot this AM. Took about 10 steps towards my stand there go two more. I knew I was in trouble when I saw deer all over on the drive up here. Have had deer on the trailcam every single day this week I have a feeling I just changed that!

63 warm with a little wind and a sprinkle here and there

Mowed the lawn in a tshirt earlier. Then hit another property and took a licking branch and a bag of scrape dirt. Zip tied it up and dirtied up a mock near my far stand behind the house. See how that goes.

Left the house with a 5 mph southwest wind. Now it's about 20 mph West. This season is crazyyy weather wise. All strapped in so I'll just ride it out.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
