fasteddie
My wife bought a 6' high platform stand with a hub blind for Christmas . I put the platform up over a month ago on the bank of a pond . Went to Geneseo today and installed the Hub Blind . Luckily I had my Thermacell with me . What a pain it was to open the blind up top side . I bough a blade for my weed trimmer and cut down some of the high weeds . They were about 5' high . Drove the ATV around a few times to knock down some of the weeds and then cut them also . I hope it turns out to be worth the effort .
Lawdwaz
Will you leave that up all season? Will it take the wind? Waterproof? Oh yea, it looks good! Edited September 7, 2014 by Lawdwaz

Doc
That looks like quite a jungle. How do you even get a look at a deer from there? Is that going to be for gun, bow, or both? Would have been good to get a picture from inside the blind looking toward where you expect the shot. Edit: Ok, I just spotted the shooting lane that you cut. Is there a well-used trail that goes by there?
fasteddie
Hopefully what I opened up will give me a shot during bow season . It would probably be better during gun season when some of that crap gets knocked down .
thphm
Mine just came via UPS yesterday going to put it up this coming week, weed wacking also. The last one I had I left out 24/7 for 2 years in the same spot, it came with tie down strings supprised it lasted that long threw all kinds of weather including heavy wet snow. The sun got to it at the end.
fasteddie
The one I installed doesn't have the fiberglass rods . It has double metal rods for support . I put a tarp on the floor and I have a section of 5'X5' carpet rolled up that I will unroll when I get into the stand . I bolted a wooden strip across the back legs and front legs so the legs wouldn't punch through and the chair can slide . I will probably use it for an afternoon stand as I would probably spook anything on the way to the stand in the morning darkness .

fasteddie
Doc --- I went back today to pretty much finish up so I can stay away for 3 weeks . Cleared out some more area . The brown circle is the camera 13 yards away . The green blob is 16 yards and the red blob is 21 yards . I chopped the tops off some of the weeds after taking the picture to make a larger shooting area .
fasteddie
There is an East / West trail that the GV Hunt Club uses and I cut down a lot of the weeds to make that a possible shooting lane . It is North of the blind .
Doc
I like that set-up. Nothing in the shooting lane to deflect arrows.....great! On these kinds of thick areas, I like to cut three lanes. The center one is for shooting, and the ones to the right and left are spotting lanes for seeing approaching deer. I have been screwed too many times by having deer walk right across single lanes and me not being ready to shoot because I didn't know they were coming. Is that area so thick that "observation lanes" might make some sense? Or are you high enough so you have no problem seeing them coming? No need for a third lane if you think about it. One to spot and one to shoot.
fasteddie
I have one more lane where I can shoot a bit south east . I chopped the tops of the weeds there as I didn't want to make a path to the stand . Now , I just hope it works out . It would probably be a better Gun stand because when some shooting starts the deer sometimes use the horse trail to escape from one property to another . It would have been nice to have had access to a brush hog instead of doing it by a Grunt .......... !

Then, spray some lighter walking paths through the thick stuff. After the die-off the dead vegetation will start to lay down naturally as the wind batters it. Slower process, but much less work-intensive and you can still be precise.
Doc
I do the same, but use a V shape with two lanes. No need for a third lane if you think about it. One to spot and one to shoot. True, but that center lane is set up to provide a perfect broadside shot. It's all set up to a perfect measured 20 yards. It is always set up to provide a broadside shot. That center lane also makes a good place to drop off a scent canister to catch their attention. The observation lanes are only brushed out lightly to minimize disturbance. Usually they are opened enough so I could get a shot if I had to, but those are not the preferred spots. Because the sight lanes are spread out so wide, the shot angles and distances may or may not be ideal depending on what the trail does.
