I have been shooting firearms at paper for several years and this year I decided to take my hunter safety courses and pick up a bow since that is all that is allowed to hunt with here on Long Isand. I joined Suffolk Archers and have been fortunate to have had some great coaching from some of the members there.

 

I have never hunted before this season. I have spent some time scouting and lots of time reading and studying. After about five to ten sessions of ground hunting in Greenport, I harvested a small buck from a tree stand less than 1/2 hour from using it for the first time.

 

Needless to say, I am eager to continue learning as much as I can.

I should add that I recently took an early retirement and, although I am focusing on deer right now, I would be interested in any type of hunting if anyone does not mind having a novice join them.
