Clearing shooting lanes

Many times I carry a small folding saw and a set of compact brush shears in a belt pack, especially early in the season when there are a lot of leaves. I move around a lot and am constantly pruning limbs and branches when I set up to give me clear sighting.

Prune away! I passed on last nights sit in order to prune, chainsaw, and rip down all the annoying obstacles in my way that emerged from the heavy winds. I figured it was better to lose a nights sit than lose to my mind watching deer walk past with the same things blocking me. Even worse would be to have them affect my shot, and end up wounding a then unrecoverable deer.

I generally have all that stuff cut out weeks or days before I intend to hunt those areas. However, I have noticed that the deer do not take inventory of what vines and fallen limbs are missing. Also, they don't seem to worry about residual human scent from such activity. Perhaps there is some cowardly old buck who might be bothered by such things. I doubt it but who knows.
