If you want me to agree to AR's I won't.

If you want me to agree to a longer bow season (Oct 1st ) OK.

If you want me to agree to let xbows into the deer seasons OK. 1st two weeks of bow (Oct1-15) and all of gun season and Muzzleloader season.

If you want me to agree to shorten the gun season OK. 3 week season followed by two weeks of Muzzleloader and xbow.

I feel the seasons are just about right, but there needs to be some type of give and take with the xbow. Giving the bow hunters and extra 2 weeks and letting in xbows for the 1st two weeks would do it for me. The biggest problem I see is losing the week for the gun hunters. For me it's not a big deal, break out the smokepole.

I don't think this will lesson the stress on the deer, the last two weeks of season may be real nice way to end the year.

This is what I posted about the original thread on page 13. I'm done.

amen to you back strapper you took the words out of my mouth one post the soil sucks no big bucks  never will be next farms everywhere so they have big bucks.  My spleen is bleeding from trying to sort it all out

You guys crack me up. I never said the soil sucked and we can't grow in N.Y. There is different contents and amounts of minerals in the soil that help promote antler growth. In no way did I say the soil sucks, the soil on my farm produces over and over year after year. Lets think twice before twisting words, thanks.

I never accused you of such. NY as whole  has a diverse soil profile (by area)which includes mineral and nutrient content. Keep spreading the manure! :-*

You guys crack me up too.

"The flora in NY does not promote the growth of big bucks. NY is not an agricultural state. The soil for the most part is poor"

Burt maybe just maybe I was refering to a couple of posts not just yours. So sorry if you felt I was being misleading by using the word sucks instead of poor.  Down here in the land of fake hunters poor, bad, suck, etc.. are interchangable.

I hunt fish with a bow best of both worlds.  World carp shoots were held 10 miles from my house on the st lawrence. Come to think of it, that would be the only reason I could think to shorten deer season is to shoot carp more

Hey Bubba , are you sure they weren't shooting craps at the Casino instead of shooting carp ? I'm never sure with the spelling !  ::D ... 8) ... 8) ... 8)

You want to lessen the stress on the deer herd?  Take up fishing hahaha

I fish a lot down here on Long Island, and the fishing for the most part sucks!

Sure does, too much nitrates going into the water from people trying grow stuff in the poor soil! lol

Sad but true, it's really put a damper on the fishing, don't get me wrong we still have our run of great stripper fishing but Blues, Fluke and those poor flounder not like it used to be.

Doc do you have any cranky meds to help with the name callers

No, this is a test of originality, and creativity. I wouldn't want to stifle some of the marvelous work being done on this thread. Actually that is probably some of the more realistic posting that will actually appear on this thread.  ;D

Thats easy...Cornell has antler restrictions, a shorter season, and an age requirment..That deer lives where and how every deer in ny should live....

He has it made..He has all the girls he wants and he gets to grow to his potential...As long as he dont get it with a golf ball or a truck!!!

There's the answer. Forget about AR and all that other complicated crap. Just stop shooting deer, and you will have all the monster trophies you can look at .....  ;D .

By the way, since everybody else has developed or passed on their own theories of deer management, I think it is only fair that I treat you all to my scheme to populate the state with ancient, sway-backed, toothless, monstrous bucks that can hardly hold their heads up from the weight of their antlers. This is brilliant! It also kind of relates back to the original post so it's almost on topic. Judging from some of the other plans I've seen here, I am surprised nobody has beat me to it.

About the only thing that hasn't been suggested so far is a management scheme that allows buck harvests only every other year or so. How about that one? That gets a bunch of deer past the 1.5 age, creates an older strata of bucks, helps balance the gender ratio, blah .... blah .... and so on and so forth and all those other neat buzz-words. By golly before long, we would have those out-of-state hunters begging to come into the state and hunt our monstrous bucks. Every other year doesn't cut it? .... make it every 3rd year. And then we can make buck season separate and keep it down to a 2 day hunt. We could actually expand the doe season.  Before you know it there would be a "booner" behind every tree. To satisfy the reduced opportunities for the bowhunters and gunners, we'll just jam a crossbow in their hands and maybe increase the antlerless permits and they will never know the difference. Everybody's happy .... right? By the way, let's hope we don't hear anybody say, "by golly that's a heck of a good idea!".  ;D
