Pygmy
I agree this is a good thing.. We had a dry May, but a very wet June.. JUNE is the month that matters ...I have not seen a turkey poult yet.. Wet weather in June is deadly on turkey poults..
Lawdwaz
In the name of turkey conservation I will forgo my fall 2015 turkey hunt and burn my issued tags. (I shouldn't mention it here but I've only killed one fall bird ever in NYS) This ruling by the DEC is a good move. Hopefully it helps the population enough to make a difference.
G-Man
Need a warm dry spring, they have 0 idea how many hunt in the fall because tags are sold together.
LI OUTDOORSMAN
Well supposedly they tally up the reported harvests and factor in..non reports..predation,etc..and come up with a number. In my honest opinion poaching is the biggest factor in turkey populations not weather, predators or anything else. Plus due to TV shows, magazines and internet everyone is a turkey hunter..lots of pressure
ATbuckhunter
That's normally when I see them anyway, so it works for me. Hopefully a few years of that and hopefully some habitat change for the better will allow for a better population in many parts of the state.
