Chef
I have never owned a muzzleloader before and my fiancé wants to buy me one for Christmas, does anyone have any suggestions of what she should get... Keep in mind I really do not want her spending a ton of money on this. Used is more than ok. Also what else would I need to really get stated
Jeremy K
skillet is selling one right now in the classified section . Cva accura v2 , my dad has the same one and it is a really nice shooter, it will go toe to toe with even the most expensive muzzleloaders you can buy .

SuperMag
I have the Remington ultimate muzzleloader. It is expensive for a muzzleloader though. I also have a traditions buckstalker and it is a great gun.
stoneam2006
CVA for the price can't go wrong at least newer ones with speed breach plug break open models I love mine and the price skillet has on his is a great deal but can get a wolf for about half that but not the same gun Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
zeus1gdsm
I love my stainless cva wolf..... Bought it specifically intending to use it solely for final week of muzzle. With irons. Never leaves the safe other than late muzzleloader. Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk

Buckmaster7600
Cva wolf, with a budget in mind they are the best bang for your buck! Can be had with a scope for under 300$ and around 2 without.

Also what else would I need to really get stated The new Thompson Center Strikes in black or camo synthetic are great choices. Very easy to clean. Very quiet hammer mechanism. Understand, most black powder substitutes will "eat" even a stainless steel barrel if not kept spotlessly clean.

We were shooting yesterday. With my Hawken 50, I can keep them in a 6" circle at 100yds. So, I'll cut myself off at 80yds for hunting. Happy with that. It's the only gun I'll be using from now on. Killed 3 with it last year.
d-bone20917
I bought a CVA Optima Northwest about a month ago and so far I'm happy with it. I haven't hunted with it yet, but I'll be out in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I can tell you how it performs on an animal.

I have shot the blackhorn 209 in my stainless CVA apex and haven't cleaned it for almost a week and it doesn't even leave a stain.
d-bone20917
Why did you choose the northwest over a 209 ignition? I'm going to be using it in Idaho and they don't allow a 209 ignition, along with other restrictions which the northwest model meets. Culvercreek hunt club
I have the Remington ultimate muzzleloader. It is expensive for a muzzleloader though. I also have a traditions buckstalker and it is a great gun. If anyone is gonna spend a grand on a ML I would suggest a more versatile platform like an Encore.

sbuff
Look at trying to find a tc omega, the cva line is good but I am not a fan. Knight are among the best too. If your spending top dollar look at the savage 10-ml11. The Remington ultimate has had several issue's . The encore platform is nice but if the qla is not concentric, centered to the bore it will not shoot conicals very accurate.as for powder, once you choose a gun you can take the next step. Jaeger
I have shot the blackhorn 209 in my stainless CVA apex and haven't cleaned it for almost a week and it doesn't even leave a stain. I did say "most", meaning Pyrodex, tripple seven, white hots. The Blackhorn 209 is the exception, but very hard to find. I'm ordering some through Graf & Sons, they have a good haz mat deal this month.

Buckmaster7600
Not to go off topic or steal the tread but if your not shooting blackhorn you are REALLY missing out. I consider one of the few "game changers" in this industry in the past 10 years.
