You'd think a big old buck like that would be mostly nocturnal so I'm guessing this spot doesn't see a lot of pressure and he felt safe. But there always seems to be a few days each year where the big ones just can't fight the urge to roam around show off their dominance.

I LOVE Caledonia.  IIRC they have world class trout fishing too?

 

Heck, I'd be even closer to Canadice if I didn't kill a buck at home in Caledonia.    That long drive from Amherst is a bummer..............................

Trout fishing is in peril here. Mergansers have decimated it the past two years. Dec said fishery is like 30 percent of what it was. Big problem right now in town.

The trout there are tough to catch, they aren't from the hatchery. They're beautifully colored from eating scuds primarily. Spooky as hell

my brother talks to one of the head guys at fish and wildlife. When he wants good trout reports on the Wiscoy he calls up my brother. Pretty sure Caledonia didn't freeze last year as everything else did. Mergansers got in and cleaned house of the trout.
