License plates

I was up helping a Buddy clean out his dads barn and we found a License plaet from 1955.My question is what color would plates from this time/year be.It's very well rusted with no color or paint left.Also can DMV help find who owned these plates.

I remember as a kid seeing plates in my grandfather shed, I wonder why he had them. Now I wish I had them. I have some motorcycle plates but they are old.

I think its way too late to find out who owned them, records were probably paper files back then and long since desposed of.

I have an old NY plate from 1928. I often wonder who owned it. Its blue with yellow lettering

The number is BR-549... I think it belonged to some guy named Junior Samples..

Br 549 is also the name of one of my favorite hillbilly rock bands .

I also have a garage wall of old plates going back to the early '50's .
