I was at cabelas yesterday and tried out the woodhaven kee kee disc. I loved it. Sounded awesome. The $109 price tag I didnt love, but it sounded amazing. I really wish I didnt pick it up because now I really want it. Can anyone suggest their favorite? I always used slate, but that aluminum was sweet.

Heres the link: http://www.cabelas.com/product/woodhaven-kee-kee-disc-turkey-call/1907693.uts?searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FN%3D5100002%26Ne%3D5100002%26No%3D0%26Ns%3DMAX_SALE_PRICE%257C1%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dturkey%252Bcall%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%252BProducts%26WTz_st%3DSearchRefinements%26WTz_stype%3DSN%26form_state%3DsearchForm%26recordsPerPage%3D18%26search%3Dturkey%252Bcall%26searchTypeByFilter%3DTopRated%26x%3D10%26y%3D6&No=0&Ntk=AllProducts&Ntt=turkey%2Bcall

Over the years I've had a few different slate calls.  My first was a Quaker Boy DD Adams Double Slate.  It might have been a good call but between my and my different strikers I couldn't make it sing.  My second one was also a Quaker Boy but the model didn't leave much of an impression on me.........My current one is from a now defunct company, Kits.  They were from Niagara Falls, NY.  A couple good guys ran it but not any longer.  I don't believe it was too expensive??

What you need to do is try a bunch of them out and see which one works for you.  A cheap one can work great, luck to you!

Woodhaven is always way too expensive. You can kee kee on any surface. Slate is the hardest but it can still be pulled off on a good call.

Couple of good Aluminum makers are Jimmy Schafer of Oak Ridge calls, Mark Cornelious, he's gotta a facebook page or SS custom calls. The first n last guys have websites. All these guys make great calls and are reasonable.

For some reason n I'm not sure why on here but fellows seem to be against great calls.

All the money spent on turkey hunting calls are a big part of it n $20 calls sound like you spent $20 on em.

None of the makers I listed are anywhere near $100.

Kinda what I'm saying between the lines. Some guys aren't even sure what they don't know.

Aluminum as a surface sounds different that other surfaces. The surface, (many types of aluminum) pot type, soundboards, strikers all make it sound differently.,

Changing any of the above changes sound.,

Now things that could ring up the cost are real exotic woods, like rainforest woods that can't be harvested until they fall n oxen used to haul em out. Another thing is exotic strikers, neither of which is necessary. (Some of the woods require a 2 year drying period say some makers.) t

Aluminum hits above 15,000mgz. So they say, idk. Supposed to be in a turkeys hearing range better, some Crystal are too. Imo everyone should have a great aluminum in their vest or two.

All makers are not the same, some are a rip off n primos does sound better. Anyone who needs to know where to try can certainly ask me.

Good luck

You can get a turkey to come to poor sounding calls.  You can get turkey to come to great sounding calls.  You can buy good calls for $20 and you can buy bad calls for $20.  Most of the time a company is not going to spend the money to make a bad call but will cut corners to save cost.  Your likely going to get a better call from a custom call maker that tunes it.  Also... The person running the call makes a huge difference.  Personal preference, the way you hold and play the call, and skill level all have a big part.

Aluminum is fast becoming my favorite surface.  Done right they can sound incredible and run easy.  Done wrong and they will be flat sounding and slick playing.  There is a fine line between right and wrong.  I have a pile of calls that were just a little off.
