My "Chip N Dale" Rifle

Where I live is a Chipmunk metropolis, they are all over the place and in to everything, my sheds, my vehicles, my lawn equipment, farm tractor, the wife's flower gardens and even in the house sometimes. When you have dogs as do I and especially an Airedale, they are unrelentingly after them wherever they go. I ain't got time to tell of the damage caused around here by the chipmunks and also by the dogs trying to get at them.

Anyhow I set myself up with a rig especially for sitting on the front porch and knocking off any Chipmunk that shows itself. A Taurus model 62 22 pump patterned after the old Winchester gallery guns which I can remember shooting at the midway in Sylvan Beach when I was a kid. I made a couple of mods to help with my old eyes, a truglo front sight and a dovetail mounted Skinner peep. Has been working pretty fair so far, I have picked off a dozen or so this week and there are still plenty more from where they came from to go.

Nice rig!!

Every year, when I was  kid, the local Field Days would come in and there was a shooting gallery, that had those Winchester pumps loaded with 22 shorts. Every kid in the area (mostly boys) would spend all their money at that booth. I won a Zippo lighter once!!! LOL!! My dad took it from me, and used it for years LOL!!! Im sure it cost me more to win it than the thing was worth….but it was cool...

Nice looking rifle.

Three words for you though, Bucket O Death. Youll put a hurting on the chipmunks pretty quickly with one or two of those.

Yeah, but the .22 is more FUN !!

My uncle once had a Winchester original..Damn fool swapped it even up for a Marlin lever action !!

I use the BOD myself, because it seems that everywhere around the Mermaid's property, it's tough to get a shot at one of the little devils without fear of hitting a building or a piece of equiptment.

The only rimfire rifle I own is a .17 HMR, way to loud of a report in my cramped neighborhood. Bought a .22 pellet gun specifically for this problem (varmits), but the accuracy isn't nothing to brag about!!! Thinking of getting a .22 rimfire and low noise shells, or what ever they call them now?

Typically won't cycle a semi auto but I've hand fed them before. Only used to be shorts and longs. LR's are new They are nice and quiet

The Taurus rifle is just one tool in the arsenal against the Chipmunks, inside the barn and sheds I do use various traps including the BOD with good success. Like Dan mentioned the 22 provides a bit more fun than the traps and I get to use a rifle that has not seen much action and make it earn it's keep.
