Grizz1219
To be blunt... Why do some so called "sportsmen" (hunters) feel the need to turn the opening day of gun season into a sh_t show.... blasting rounds at deer like it is a war zone, hunting from trucks, driving trucks through fields looking to shoot, hunting other peoples blinds/stands.... Just in general being exactly what anti hunters want us to look like... A bunch of idiots.... Now I am totally against the sunrise to sunset rule, should be 30 minutes prior to 30 minutes after, if you can't see with that light, don't shoot... Most states have those times and do just fine... But I heard more shots in the missing hour than the entire day... And it isn't just NY... I live in Ma. and it's the same here... If you know people doing this, please instruct them, chastise them if need be... we are only hurting ourselves by not correcting this behavior... your thoughts???? turkeyfeathers
A lot of those slob hunters only and hopefully only hunt opening weekend. Friend and I were discussing a lot of deer probably survived and didn't get bounced around with weather being so crappy and hunters staying out of the woods. One could hope at least. And I dealt with the same tresspassers I've had run into 2 other times over the years. They walk my brothers property and take shots at running deer they scare up. No chance in the world of ever killing one . Slobs at their best. They'll be back, I'm sure of that. Next time :back tag picture and DEC. Although my 3 run ins were all on opening day and never saw them again. There's hope for my reasoning of "opening day hunters only" after all.

Do yourself a favor and call the state police to, DEC usually have their hands full with other stuff so the State boys is a better bet.
Paula
I think for a lot of guys its a macho thing to be able to kill something, especially with a gun they have been showing off to everyone. Young guys have no self control and blast off all they're whole load! Only when its over do they wish they had more shells left

Grizz1219
It's not just young guys.... most of the people I see are older.... I'm 52.... and I see guys my age and older doing really dumb stuff... When I gun hunt I hunt like I have a bow, just the ability to shoot further...... That's it.. same scent control,,, same areas... etc..
Paula
Most of the guys or woman that you could be describing are probably not hunters, meaning they only want to kill and then brag, They don't put any effort into at all. I am sure they have never heard of scouting
uberyan
Unfortunately, maturity or a lack thereof, is ageless. I think it has more to do with the mindset and the personal code one decides to adhere to. Deer is not a necessary food source for me. I do enjoy it and it's one of the reasons I decided to hunt it, but my family and I will not starve for lack of it. It's a sport and a challenge and there are rules I set for myself. A big part of that is taking a clear, responsible shot and a making a clean kill. Putting myself in a position to be able to do so is part of the hunting challenge. I would find no joy in taking a deer because I emptied an entire magazine into it.

nodeerhere
I hunted with my muzzleloader all wk end. And love it! If I miss well then the deer get to live. And when I was younger I fit in that category of shooting 5 shells in 3 secs. I'm 38 now and boy after I started bow hunting many yes back I relized how many people come in the woods opening wk end and dont have a clue. I am teaching both my sons to to be them kinds of guys! vizslas
it started fine but then. the wind started to blow the snow started to come down and sunday morning the guys that gut shot the four pointer tracked right across my moms land and her neighbor ... right where i was sitting in my tree stand they spent three hours looking for a deer that was doomed. cityidiots thats all they are, two acres and they run all over your land looking for wounded deer. I never saw the deer until it was too late for a shot.. ethical reasons i fealt bad for the deer. I dont understand the use of rifles in the woods and around houses again cityidiots. i had a moocher near a different piece i hunt saturday night . i yelled at him from my blind and lets just say I sent a warning shot across the bow... boy how fast the get the meaning of a posted sign he was standing next to...dont think he will be back..I do respect others boundries and have worked too long and hard on my spots to be walked all over by crappy hunters.year after year its the same old thing idiots with guns in the woods. .
