turkeyfeathers
So apparently on another forum the 20 gauge XR's aren't as spectacular as in 12. And can't locate anyhow. Back to searching for Federal heavyweight 7's or TSS hand loads Mind you field loads of 7.5's in daughters 20 are the nuts at 30 yards. Not even sure why I'm attempting to find anything else. I just need to do my part of getting ole Tom inside 30 and let daughter do the rest. Off to polish barrels now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
LET EM GROW
Been trying to find time to do hand loads of TSS for my 20ga as well. Damn free time.. don't have any lol Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
Buckmaster7600
I don't know if they still make them but #6 Remington high velocity 3" is all I ever used in my 20ga and it shoots them amazing! These aren't turkey loads they were a game load as well.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
turkeyfeathers
Located 2 boxes of Federal Heavyweight 7's for daughters 20 gauge. Next to handload TSS's these are supposed to be the ultimate 20 gauge turkey load. Again, I'm totally overthinking this but it gives me something to do,lol.

I'll post up some pics and our results.
growalot
No ..he did those last year which is why I sent a letter to Winchester telling them they missed the boat not doing 20 's as well...me and a bunch of others. He bought a new 20ga and patterned the new 20's. ...you should watch it. He was very honest on the difficulties of shooting them close range without a scoped shot gun due to pattern tightness. I emailed Winchester a few times on saying "need XR's in 20 gauge" Never got a response either. After milling around on Oldgobbler site where only but a few were able to pick up XR's in 20 gauge the consensus is they can't hold a candle to Federal Heavyweight #7's. HVyWT only 2nd to TSS handloads. Some serious and I mean serious turkey killers over there run and gun with the lighter gun in 20 and claim they lose nothing by shooting these over the 12. Although in 12 gauge in my experience XR's are bar none the craziest tightest shooting turkey hammer I've ever shot. Totally agree on shooting at close birds with chance at missing them as pattern is too tight. Going to test a few 3.5 " #5's with 2 1/8 ounce at 1050 fps compared to the 3.5 " #5's with 2 oz at 1200 fps.
LET EM GROW
I love the XR shells for my 12ga. But I think they shot darn near the same as the old extended range shells, can anyone find these anymore.. heard they stopped making and selling them Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
growalot
Never been a fan of Federals...I should say my Browning wasn't..big time jamming/ ejection issue. Why I went to Breneke slugs Then Remington Bird..started during Winchester turkey loads couple of years ago..Removing yt? on intros before that....really? Try that again Remington nitro's before that.

WNY Bowhunter
The Fed. HW 7's are deadly. My wife has taken two birds at 40+ yds with them...those little pellets break wings and eveything in their path!!!
LET EM GROW
Are the 20ga heavyweights #7s safe to shoot through a standard turkey choke, designed for lead? Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
