EspressoBuzz
I'm semi-retired and visiting my Mom, Dad & Sis. Which is why I can stay and not break the bank. I'll be spending real money when I head to Lake Como, Orvieto and Rome later this trip.

Although you've fair I was only there for 6 hours and didn't get to see all that much. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
EspressoBuzz
After Naples which is a rougher town Rome is the most historically densely packed city in Italy. But like most history it's best experienced by immersion. Wandering Rome it is just as easy to walk a street little changed from medieval times as it is to find Roman ruins. Time is the only ingredient you need to enjoy the timelessness of the Eternal City.

Enjoy Rome though!
Elmo
I really didn't care for Rome either. It was took commercialized. I found that I had a much better time in the smaller towns in Italy then the big cities. For example Cinque Terre was great even while still being a major destination spot. In Rome, the quint neighborhood of Trastevere was a nice quiet breather. If you want to wander around Rome, be sure to check out Trastevere.
