The beautiful Joan of Arc statue in New Orleans has also been targeted for vandalism. As have several religious statues elsewhere. This is total iconoclasm of Western imagery. It won't stop with figures of the South

It will never stop, Papist. It might slow down a bit once the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, and the flag are destroyed and removed from public view, but there will always be something else on the horizon.

I've talked to many of these people in small groups. They don't just hate all of the symbolism. They truly hate this country. Everything they've been taught to think it is, everything they've been taught to think it stands for, and everyone who supports it. And the Main Stream Media are their cheerleaders.

    I think the Durham statue went up in 1924, and I imagine that there have complaints (especially from blacks), no matter who was in power, ever since then.   The latest numbers I have seen indicate that 75 % of Americans currently identify themselves as Christians.  That means that it will be a long time before we need to worry about threats to the Crosses.   The best move Trump has made so far is the appointment of a Conservative Christian Supreme Court Justice.   Hopefully he gets a few more good picks like that over the next 7 years, and Pence (that was another great pick) even more in the 8 years after that.  

      

That would insure that our Crosses can stay up for a long time.  That is great for me.  The one in the photo above is the one that I looked at right before putting a bolt thru the heart of my first Crossbow buck.  I am not sure if I would have made that shot without it.   I do know that I have never killed a deer without His help, and we have been eating very good for many years.  The venison stuffed peppers my that wife just made for dinner, with a Genesee scotch ale on the side, was to die for.

The statues are memorials to the dead..I think it's an utter travesty to remove them.I have been to 40 plus battlefields. And have read hundreds of plaques they are dedicated to units.and men or division or states dead..of course they use generals of said units to represent them. I have never seen any that were placed to uphold slavery nor have I seen an actually C.S.A. flag and there are 3 of them except in a museum..the flag we see is a battle flag of northern Virginia actually..  Which didn't secede until Lincoln called up troops 2 days earlier.. Soon in on photos and read what they stand for!! The media says they were erected  because of jim crow laws..

They were in face erected when money was easier.. 20 to 50 years after the war because the South was left impoverished. Many were placed by sons and daughter groups at the urging of the war department to mark the dead and positions before the last veterans died..  Many are true works of art by master artists...  If you are for removing them you may as well remove all gravestones that have a picture or epitaph you are offended by.. 

Further taking them down does nothing just like a feel good law.. Leave them and educate.. We don't tear down mosques as Christians because we find them offensive. Or synagogues.. Or vice versa.. The hate of these is tought and wrongfully so..just read the Damn plaques...the one torn down as woman arrested was dedicated to the boys in grey that gave their lives... How is that offensive..

Should any public reference, statue or bust be taken down that is Martin Luther King Jr's, because of his stance and belief on homosexuality?

Certainly those on the far left would be none to happy about that but who cares ?

I would not mind seeing all the statues of the Civil war loosers be taken off their pedestals and replaced with ones of Martin Luther King JR.  As a Christian pastor, his view on homosexuality was the correct one and was entirely consistent with Biblical teachings. Certainly those on the far left would be none to happy about that but who cares ?     

That's not a consistent view in my opinion.
