Cold Weather Gear

Looking to purchase some cold weather pants, especially after last night's snow fall.  Looking for something that will slip over say thermals and maybe even a pair of jeans or even just thermals.  Any suggetsions out there?  Really interested in what you use for under layer as well.  Thanks again!

UA cold gear. Treestand pattern. Great camp and very warm.

I have Smartwool long underwear tops and bottoms and also an Underarmour 4.0 top which all are great.  Can't say enough about Smartwool socks too.  I bought Cabela's wooltimate pants last year and was very happy with them. Definitely warm and quiet  And get yourself a muff. Throw a handwarmer packet in there and don't need gloves even on the coldest of days. My primary weapon during gun season is my ML and with even the lightest gloves on I have a hard time cocking back hammer with not much clearance of scope. Every year I say I'll buy and extended hammer and don't.

I fleece pants under an insulated bib.

I was wearing UA 3.0 base layer, and top. Fleece pants then sitka bibs. Up top had a dufold top over the UA and a fleece shirt over that, all under my sitka fanatic jacket. Body was warnm toes got cold.

I hear you on the hand muff, thought of the exact thing you outlined (handwarmers etc) after I bought some good gloves.  Hands down that is the best way to go!  Looked at the Cabella's woolitmate pants, do you wear regular thermals underneath?

The Sitka products look amazing but a bit more than I am willing to spend (at least right now lol).  Rocky has a pair of boots with 2000grams of thinsulate each (The Brute) and I've been using them with a regular white tube sock with no complaints this year if your feet are getting cold.

Last year I learned the benefit of overalls that ride high on the back. I got some waterproof insulated field and stream brand for not much more than a hundred bucks. I used them in some windy some-freezing conditions last year and had no issues. 

I don't use a muff yet for hands but I really appreciate minimal gloves. Mine are medium thickness now, and if I put hands in pocket I should be good. I've yet to try handwarmers beacuse my fingers get cold and I like gloves not mitts. I'm a fervent believer in toe warmers. Since last year I use mucks field blazer II boots. These are thin enough to use in fairly warm weather and with wool socks and chemical toe warmers they can take way below freezing. Those toe warmers are light, cheap, and make light weight boots into winter boots.

What are you wearing underneath the overalls? Just a pair of thermals?

I wore today my new carhartt bibs. I walked so they were pretty dam warm.

Thank you again to all of you that shared your insights.  It gave me a great starting point, and in the end I went with Cabella's Wooltimite pants as it seemed the best overall solution for me.  Thanks again!!
