New to me Springfield

I got this gun from a guy that owed me some money for work I did, not really sure what it's worth but it's a beauty for sure real happy with it. I ran the serial number and it came back as being made in 1906!! Wow didn't see that coming.

I have one that I got from my grandfather from that time period. I promise you, you will not be disappointed.  Even outside of the sentimental value, I love that gun!

Good to hear! I just put a few rounds through it and it's on, 5 shots at 95 yards.

You just can't beat some of those old classics for looks and performance! This one is a true beauty!  What caliber is it? Will you mount some glass on it?

This is a 30-06 and I've been deciding if I will or not, I normally ready would have but also I like having another rifle with open sights other than my 30-30. We'll see. If I do it will likely be something simple fixed power.

You have yourself a military 03 Springfield that has been sporterized, the stock has been shaped to a sporter style and the military sights have been changed or it has possibly been rebarreled with a sporter barrel and sporting style sights. The 03  is a proven good quality action and many a custom rifle has been made using them. Congratulations.

No shock there, the iron sights on those are amazing!  I do have glass on mine but would be comfortable without it if it was not already mounted.

To you guys who know some stuff about this gun I see them for literally 175 dollars and up what's the difference in these firearms? I don't regret the deal at all and won't but what's a gun like this worth?

My Dad has a FFL, he is out of the country for a few weeks but when he gets back I'll ask him a range etc if you'd like.

my bet is condition and originality play a big role in value.   Yours may not be original but good modified condition and a shooter seems good to me.  You are a hunter not collector (as far as I know).

Thanks Moog and your right I'm definitely not a collector who's concerned solely on price and originality. It'll be used to hunt here and there either way.

Moog is right the collector would be looking at one in original condition, but there are plenty of shooters and hunters that have done exactly what has been done to yours and that is sporterize it. 

A bare 03 Springfield action is worth some money on it's own because like Mauser 98 actions they are old time quality not seen much today and folks like using them for the basis of custom rifles.

Yours looks to have been rebarreled with a sporter contour barrel with a sporter front sight installed, I can not identify the rear sight from the picture but it appears to be some sort of receiver sight.  The stock is walnut and although not fancy it appears to been finished well.

Don't know if the trigger has been replaced, the original would have been two stage I think so if you have a single stage trigger (one without a lot of take up and just breaks when pulled) it would not be original.

Hard to put an exact price on it's value but you could not buy anything new close to it's quality for several hundred dollars. Personally I think you have a fine rifle there.

Just checked gunbroker and they are going from anywhere from low $400s to multiple $1000s depending on condition options and who did the sporterization.  I have been looking at either a mil surp or sportized 03 for a few years as a long range rifle and I must say you ended up with a beaut.
