That was last year. It was a nomad that had wandered in from the Dakotas. They tracked it with DNA evidence it left behind. Like has been said, when there actually IS one around, its not that hard to come up with evidence of it being there.

The thing about evidence is that the government accepts witness testimony as evidence when they want to but not in the case of Lion.

They accept witness testimony for certain things, not everything.

We are not talking about someone witnessing an act, like someone getting in a fight or stealing. These are claims of animals living in certain areas. Animals dont cover their tracks or pick up their poop and dispose of it. If an animal as large as a Mountain Lion was living in an area, its not that hard to come up with evidence. That one that was killed last year, left behind a trail of prints (there were verified pics taken of them), scat, hair, etc and that cat was just passing through. Now dont you think youd be able to find that same type of evidence from animals that actually live in an area?

A couple of years back, there was a report in the newspaper down in either Belmont or Belfast NY with a picture of a "Mountain Lion" complete with 3 people that witnessed it and took the picture. It was posted in the paper, and on their web site. After some people saw it and emailed the newspaper, they went to the area and did some measurements of other objects in the paper. It turned out the animal in question was a common house cat.

Heres the pic, I saved it to my Photobucket account when the story ran...

Actually the cat had been around a long time and in many different communities before it was hit. Dozens of people reporting sightings in other communities were told that they were mistaken but later the DEC reported that the CT ML had traveled through the communities of those who had reported sightings. Officials apparently neglected to tell the Lake George folks that they had a visitor!

It's pretty funny how important it is to so many people that mountain lions be seen in NYS. What is that all about? What is it that makes us want to see them here so bad? Likewise, I don't understand spending a whole lot of time and effort de-bunking these claims.

The only thing that will be noteworthy about all of this is if or when we read the headlines about the DEC planning on introducing them. If you ever see that news story, it will be time to go crazy fighting that kind of an act. Other than that, people can see whatever they want to see it doesn't bother me a bit. I simply nod my head and give out a few H-M-m-m-m's and uh-huh's and maybe a wow or two and then change the subject.

Heres an article with facts about that cat, complete with a trail cam photo. Imagine that, the one time there was one around and it was caught by a trail cam, just like those of us that ask for verifiable evidence have been saying would happen if there was a cat around. Hmmmm
