Thestevemeister
Anyone going out this weekend? I'm going to be trying public land and hopefully it wont be to busy. I'm in onondaga county myself and always looking for places/people to hunt with.

Bolt action
It's on my calendar but I'm not sure if I'm going it yet. The past few pheasant openers have left a bad taste in my mouth. The stocked areas are over crowded. I've literally seen guys yelling at each other and almost coming to blows because they wanted to push the same pieces of the property. I'd rather wait for Sunday, but by then most of the birds are gone...
Doewhacker
I would go after Woodcock instead, in a good area your dog will have far more natural encounters than any released pheasant will ever offer. And flight birds offen do not fly far when flushed which present more opportunities for a dog to smell what’s going on. If he hasn’t been introduced to a big mean pheasant with sharp spurs that may be something to consider also. Have you introduced the dog to gun fire in a safe way? Thestevemeister
Ya my dog is 2 years old and his first bird experience was the youth hunt last weekend, he put up 8 birds but user error prevented any of them from being hit lol, hes been great so far just needs more birds, probably going to my camp this weekend for opening deer season so I'll probably pheasant hunt Canton a bit. I'm going to go next week in the mornings to avoid all the others at three rivers.
Fletch
Thanks for the reminder. Makes me rethink hunting my deer stand 100 yards off a pheasant loaded soybean field this weekend lol.
