I usually do them a different way each time.  I like a pinch of red sauce if its a long cook where I had it planned.  If it is last minute, I bake the links, and as its baking, I put a pinch of olive oil, and saute the onions, peppers, garlic in a pan.  I typically have enough liquid for the links to be added.  Thanks for the post, I think I will make this later, enjoy.
