I noticed the corn fields by me are still very low. Some one told me that corn should be knee high by the 4th of July. I think it is half that, why I don't know we did get alot of rain in June.

Up here the corn seems to be good.  Due to the endless rain in May, a majority of the fields are just over a month old but seem to jump up an inch or two every day.  My soy and corn plots are coming great.  We had one stretch that was a little too dry, but for the most part we are getting good growing weather.

Living in the middle of the woods, my prime concern is fires. It's been a long time since I have seen conditions so dry. They are now talking about the situation resulting in a record July for lack of rain. What a weird year for weather. First we get flooded out and then just a few months later we are tinder dry. Must be that global warming of Al Gore's .... eh? ;)

I can remember years similar to this. We had one maybe 8 years ago or so. I remember having to water my lawn for most of the summer because I was trying to get rid of the weeds and build up on more actual grass, but had a really hard time of it with the lack of rain we had for most of the summer.

I think I remember some "lawn watering" bans in some of the towns around Rochester a bunch of years back because of extended drought conditions. See..... I tell ya it's that damned global warming. Somebody call Al Gore for some help.

ANd to think last year we had record rainfall all summer here and the Salmon River was running at 24000 cfs when its normal summer flow is 180cfs.  It doesnt matter if it cold, snow, rain drought, hot or none of the above its definately global warming, just ask Al Gores Ex wife. LOL

We got 1/10" Monday morning. First, if you want to call it, rain since June 25th. Went out to disc the summer fallow land, made one pass, and decided to quit.  Turning up more moisture that I didn't want to loose.  The hay fields that I have harvested 3 weeks ago, have some alfalfa, clover, and trefoil coming up very slowly. Didn't even bother planting my plot blend. Fert. and lime already on it but, I'll put that into wheat early Sept.. Deer are feeding on some of the grasses, corn, and rape there. Had some extra corn seed, so I threw it on and disc it in.  The corn won't make ears, but it is good forage for them.( Wow, first time I see them eating rape.)  On the other side, it is great hay making weather.
