Well, let's hope the courts make examples of these jerks. Somewhere along the line, they didn't receive any home training in decent behavior from their parents. Perhaps it's time for the legal system to teach them in a way that makes the leson stick.

That's right !!!.....those yungins should be drawn and properly quarter...take their guns and vehicles away and give them to the old poacher in the assisted living home that got away with poaching and killing a protected "American symbol"....because being a young dumb ass is so much more devious than being an older experienced dumb ass....Just so many WOW moments here...lol

I don't know why stories like this still surprise me. Why people would be so dumb and reckless and thinking they would not get caught is beyond me. I think shooting across each other in a car is what got me the most. Seriously, how dumb do you have to be?

Good idea!! Cleaning calf stalls in their bare feet would be a real eye opener ;)

Parents will teach the kids the reality of the world and consequences that come with those realities or the world will do it for the parents. I didn't like the consequences my parents gave me but looking back they were a hole lot better than the alternative.

Unfortunately i don't think the parents are holding up there end of the bargain. Just look at the last comment (probably from mom, aunt, etc. etc.).

If they were my kids they would be working on that farm until the farmer thought the debt had been paid, to the hell with what the court does or doesn't do.

@ growalot - old or young a dumass is a dumass and there should be consequences for there actions. I was young (still am compared to most on this forum) and i had to pay my dues for the choices i made.

If I was the farmer I wouldn't want them anywhere near my farm ever again. I agree take away their hunting privilages for a long time and maybe even some weekends in jail. Can't say I blame the parents though as I don't know them but I do know the kids should be held responsible.

At one point a few years ago I had more than a few registered Red Angus breeding cattle. Had a 5 year old monster of a bull too, both for my animals and to hire out to stud.....Captain Tyrell. He was pretty good tempered, especially for me as I raised and showed him a few times......

I had my cows on pasture and some teens from a nearby property took to shooting my animals with a BB and pellet gun. State Police were called and the parents paid some vet bills as restitution.

The one kid was 15 and to get even with me for getting him in trouble he thought it would be funny to drive into the pasture to mess with my herd. A few days earlier I let Tyrell in there to service my cows.

He borrowed his dad's new Chevy Suburban....well Tyrell was a little spooky when it came to cars and trucks and he was already jacked up from being in with the ladies.....

Stoved both sides in on the big SUV and broke or cracked every window in it. I got a call at dawn from the police as the kid spent the night up on the roof of the car as Tyrell ran him down every time he tried getting off.

I've never seen two State Troopers laugh so hard as when I showed up with some sweet feed to lead everyone off in a sweep pen I had there to rescue that kid.

Insurance company gave them all kinds of issues paying for the damage (how do you tell an agent/adjuster a bull beat in your car doors).....and the parents again had to pay the land owner for the pasture damage and me to repair the fences.

Funny now....but I would have beat that kid if he was mine.....

Real stories from Conservation Officers and Forest Rangers in the field

By ECO Lt. Tom Caifa and Forest Ranger Lt. John Solan

Window Poaching-Steuben County

Recently, a resident from Bath contacted ECOs Tom Flaitz and Dave Hulett to report that an eagle had been shot; he had a picture on his cell phone of the injured bird. The officers went to the accused man's residence, which was an adult, assisted-living home. The facility operator, a 71-year-old female, stated she shot the eagle, but both officers suspected she was trying to protect the real suspect. Finally the woman admitted that one of her residents, an 87-year-old retired dairy farmer, shot the eagle from his second-story bedroom window. The ECOs found a scoped rifle and box of ammunition next to the window in his room where apparently he would sit and shoot at wildlife that ventured onto the property. The firearm and the eagle carcass were seized, and the man was ticketed for illegally taking a protected bird, for which he paid a heavy fine. Additionally, the man's other firearms were locked in the facility owner's gun safe, available only for legitimate hunting activities.
