How often do you wax your bowstrings?

I was wondering how often should you wax your bow strings. I haven't had to wax them for about a year since I didn't notice any lag or fuzziness. But I've read that they should be waxed every time you see the string starting to get fuzzy. I've also read that they should not be waxed too often or too much cause it leaves wax build up and residue.

I do it once a month when Im shooting alot, like now. I have waxed mine twice since I bought it. I also used dental floss to clean the old wax out of them before I rewaxed them. I also lube the servings when I wax the string.

I was always told you really can never over wax your bows as long as you consistently shoot. I wax my compounds and recurves every other time I shoot them. I wax my crossbow every 10 shots and definitely every time I use it.

I do it about every 3 weeks as I shoot all the time. The key is working the wax into the string fibers.

I've never. I guess I should. I was watching videos on how to do it. In the videos, they only wax the exposed parts. Do you ever wax the part of the string that loops over the cams? If so, how do you do it? Do you use a device to draw the string back or something? Thanks!

I bet if you type waxing a bow string in Youtube there will be something there for you to watch. There is a ton of great info there. That is where I learned to fletch my own arrows.

Yeah, the videos I was watching were from youtube. I watched several and they didn't wax the section that loops over the cam. I was just wondering if you don't have to wax that section or the videos only did the sections between the cams and servings just as an example.

Once a month for me. If I'm in wet weather conditions I wax the string once I return and dry the bow. I practice pretty frequently also.

I believe you don't need to wax the part that loops over the cam. B Pro told me to wax it at least every other time I shoot. They said you can't over wax a string and some of them guys may do it everytime they shoot.

I would check with an archery pro, but I am pretty sure you do not wax the serving over the cams. It can cause them to come out. and that's bad. I wax my string about once a month, I shoot year round though.
