Bobcat

Managed to catch some pictures of a bobcat in the Central New York area. Saw him while deer hunting and figured catching him on camera would be pretty easy with that beaver dam.

I was psyched to have seen it, it was 80 yards away silhouetted against the stream. Seeing it cross the beaver dam gave me high hopes of catching it on camera, and fortunately I did.

I've seen tracks, but never saw one yet.

Definitely one of the coolest animals in the woods.

Trapper nailed 2 in the ADK with over 12 beaver. (used beaver as bait) Beaver was pretty cool but I would not trap or shoot big cats they are just too cool and I never see them so I figure they have a small population and do not affect the deer that much. The only 2 he has ever gotten in over 20 years of trapping... He was trying to get the yotes... From what he told me the yotes are very skitish around human scent... One adult femal very old teeth broken and worn down and what appeared to be her daughter. I thanked him for trapping the beaver because I feel if he did not trap the area I hunt would be one big swamp!!! I already have one area I can not get to because of beaver ponds. He says they reproduce like rats and will catch another 12 next year...

Got a shot at one with the bow only 20 yards from stand, had the shooting rail down on my ladder stand and when I took the shot hit the rail. Missed and he just mulled around then climber up a ledge and walked away. Too interested in watching him and didn't knock another arrow, he didn't even see me.

Bobcats are becoming very common here in the southern tier. Several trappers that I know are releasing 2-4 cats per season from thier fox and coyote sets.

I have personally seen 3 this year either while hunting or crossing the road.

I suspect that the state may soon open a limited season for them here. There seem to enough of them around.

I believe there is already a season on bobcats.

They are protected in a large part of the state, including where this guy is living.

Yea, there is a season for them where I am. I have never seen one though.

Watched one catch a mouse in our front lawn about 15yrs ago.Wished I had a video camera then.They are a beautiful animal , don't think I could shoot one.

Just to add to this, I got this one last year in Schroeppel, NY near Pennellville.

Been hunting over 45 years and never seen one till i got this one on a trail camera.

I saw a BOBCAT while hunting in the Monticello area.Watched him for awhile with binoc's never thought to shoot I was so amazed.
