You might be surprised  how far Lassie and Rover get from home....It doesn't take to long for a big dog to cover a couple of miles.. That said, I'd say it is either a dog or a coyote...

My apologies.....I was looking at the COYOTE picture.....Looking at the original picture I would say fox....
