My daughter won a Silver medal in the Nassau County Underclassmen Fencing Championship

This is completely off topic but last night I was so proud of my daughter for winning The Silver medal in the Nassau County Underclassmen Foil Fencing Championships. She is a foil fencer for the Oyster Bay HS girls varsity team. Can you say scholarship???

They absolutely give scholarships! She has been doing this since 7th grade and was the only 8th grader on the Varsity team last year. She now only in 9th grade but has her sights set on Penn State (Top Fencing School in the Country) She went there last year for fencing camp in the summer for a week. They bring in Olympic coaches from Germany and Austria to teach these kids how to perfect their moves. Five days of non-stop fencing. Planning on going again this summer.

Foil is the type of weapon she uses. They use Sabers, Epees, and Foils. With sabers it's mostly slashing moves, Epee and Foils are more pinpoint accuracy. Sort of a jab move. Oh and by the way, they are not "swords" they are called "weapons". I got an earful from her when she first started out and I called them swords. LOL!
