sbuff
As my quest to find an 1895 gbl gets harder due to outrageous prices . How does the Henry All-Weather Side Gate Black/Silver Lever Action Rifle - 45-70 Government compare to the marlin.
Larry
I have a 444 marlin that I have had for years. Before they were sold to Remington and the quality of that rifle is very good. But after they were sold to Remington that quality went down. I would go with the henry over the marlin unless you can find a pre-Remington. Ruger now owns marlin lets hope there willing to do what it takes to make a good quality rifle.
Jeremy K
From the research I did before buying one ,the new Marlins are not as dependable as the old ones . I didnt buy a Marlin so can not confirm . I was at gander looking for a 45 70 ,they had a 45 70 marlin and a 30 30 Henry and I went with the henry . It's been solid since day 1. Henry was not offering the side gate when I bought one ,it actually prefer the tube over the side gate. G-Man
Here is the thing, marlin has not been in production for over a year. Ruger bought them and new production is expected to ship in august. Henry are good rifles but the receivers are much weaker than the Marlins ( before Remington). Marlin made theirs high enough to withstand high pressure hand loads that are meant for strong single shots. Imo if you really want one I'd wait and buy a new ruger / Marlin as ruger is a top manufacture of extremely strong rifles. I expect they keep the same quality with their new brand marlin.
