Black Flies

The black flies have been out for a few days . They feed on me and are a real nuisance !

Have not tryed yet but I was told listerine work's well for repellent for most bug's.

Boonie hat & mosquito head net. You can get them at walmart.

I tried some Repel . It works on mosquitos but not Black Flies . My wife gave me a Cutter's Stick that I will tryout tomorrow . She said it works for the black flies .

Only thing I have found to deter the black fly's is smoke or one of those electrified tennis racket things. I left a can of OFF on the porch railing one time while doing some yard work and came back to find a group of blackflys huffing it.

most repellents will keep them from biting... but if you're looking to keep them from buzzing around your head and driving you nuts.. good luck...lol.. Black flies don't bother me half as bad as the deer flies.

They are the worst i have ever seen them this year! i never have them in my yard and they are everywhere!! hope they die off soon, maybe a good freeze will off them before season starts!

Not true. Its a urban myth.

Now on the other hand my wife swears by bounce fabric softener sheets. She will tuck one in the back of her hat.

Now here is a good one that works for me. Take a stick. Put your hat on the stick and hold it up in the air and 90% of the blackflies will fly up to it. Blackflies always gravitate to the highest spot. Not sure why. But you can always spot me in the turkey woods because when I walk through I have my gun over my shoulder and my hat on the end of the barrel. I will use a thermacell when I sit still.

I looked up the Sawyer's Insect Repellent on Bass Pro and printed a copy of their price of $12.99 . I stopped at DICKs when I was in Webster and the manager said they would match the price and I never knew DICKs did this until this thread .

I was down at greek peak last weekend and they were about to carry us off.. Gosh i hate those things.
