Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?

It would be nice to have a proper age structure where I hunt.  I love meat too, that's why I'll take a nice mature doe. My fridge is full, and I didn't even get to take a buck this year.

What do antlers have to do with age...you side stepped the whole no buck thing...i think you said b4 that you were cool with that...wouldnt that make more sense to raise the total age of the population..

no.. there is already a balanced age structure in the doe herd.. but not a good representation of each age group in bucks and antlers for some reason just seem to get bigger as a buck ages... I can't figure it out!

Sorry folks Im against it! behind my farm is a public hunting area and ALOT of folks shoot anything they see and if they arent happy with it they leave it  which cuts down on the deer I have a chanse at .I hunt for food because we try to live off the land and i want a deer or 2 a year and if the bucks are on the town woods side of our block by the time they drive them to our side you might have no choice of bucks i do shoot for body size and I hate to shoot does here because if they get hit hard we will have no deer at all  so all hunters on our side of the block leave the does alone so we all can have deer every yr if my property was somewhere else I might change my mind where I live public hunting really affects us

Thats ok if thats what you want to do.. but you may want to do some homework about the type of deer you're shooting and why you are shooting them and how it affects your hunting experience.. just sayin'

ok let me ask what part of season is it?  how many have I seen? Have I already harvesed a buck this season?  Lots of different ways to answer depending on the scenario, and which tag do I have makes a big difference

Ok I'll play along.. its the first day and the buck looks like a 150-160 class buck.. and you only have one tag...either sex... the doe is about 90-100 lbs... both are standing broadside at 40 yards in an open meadow.. and neither has a clue you are there... the drag is 100 yards downhill to your truck... 

My point with Rocket was that if he claims to be a meat hunter... then he would take either or... but we all know that 100% of the hunters would take the buck... and if they say different ... they are lying... so much for I'm not a rack hunter... one is not a rack hunter only when not presented a suitable rack and suddenly becomes a meat hunter... ;D

I'll even go one step further and say the other deer is not a doe but rather a 4 pt buck... you are still going to take the bigger buck...

Just to clarify Bubba.. the point was in reference to Rocket saying that he hunts only for small tender deer because he's a meat hunter...thats BS and we all know it...when confronted with a nasty old monster of a buck.. he's shooting that just like everyone else.

first day of season and an either sex tag, I would take neither.  I never shoot deer opening day, just my own rules.  I know what you were eluding to.  I was just trying to give you a hard time.  But if I had to choose for opening day, the doe.  That way the buck could live to breed to pass those genes along.  I would be more cncerned about the body size of the buck rather than the antler size.
