Well..now if you look back on this thread  you can see im for ar..but i want somthing in return..also what i meant about younger  deer was that on the flip side of wanting antlers..you would want the meat..and altho im am far below your stature..i do kno that the younger animals are the tastiest..so thats what those people should fight and try to convince you to do..theres more ways to get bigger racks besides restrictions on everyone..if everyone gets a monster deer..whats gonna make it special..huntingwny.com had awesome deer pictured and theres only 300 members there..maybe you just aint going to the right part of ny...

Rocket I know you mean welll, but you really don't know what you're talking about... I keep trying to tell you its not all about bigger racks... you have to read a little bit about what deer management is all about then you can form an educated opinion.. even if your opinion isn't the same as mine.. but you need to know what you're talking about first.

NY honestly anter size means very little to me.  Body size does.  I have shot 6 and 4 that were big deer, and passed on 8's that werent.  If I were forced to shoot one of the deer in the scenario, and the buck was not body wise what I want,I would shoot the doe.  You really should not expect everyone to make the same decisions you would.  I like 200 deer but pounds not inches.  Granted a deer of that stature would most likely be the body size I want, but not necessarily.  If he wasnt. I would pass on him same as you would pass on a 6 point.  Does supply me with some meat, after that it is body mass.  I passed a 10 up late ml as I did not need the meat, as I already had two in the freezer, and post rut, he was down a lot on size. So to imply I am a liar just because I may not do what you would seems kind of judgemental.

my season starts with ml and looking for a doe or two to put in the freezer.  My regulr season entails loking for a big buck.  Believe it or not.  Saying you dont buy it but taking back calling me a liar is still the same as calling me a liar in my books.

Nutrition is very important for growing antlers.. so is lack of stress... soil.. but no matter what a deer eats or how healthy he gets... if he doesn't live past 1.5 years he will never have big antlers... period.. so I would say age is pretty important for growing big antlers and big deer.

i think nutrition and obviously gentetics has alot to do with antler growth... I mean if a deer is not living past a year and half then that buck sporting  decent size head gear will not happen, because hes dead... but if that deer happens to not have access to enough forage during the important months then that deer will have a hard time consuming the nutrients, minerals and protien inorder to support the growth of a nice rack.i believe you are what you eat and its just that simple, that same term applies to the deer herd. however it is possible due to genetics and and abundance of forage a 1.5 old deer can have a decent rack also... Studies show in areas where there are mature deer they may never have a nice size rack due to food supply/protien and nutrients. If that 4 1/2 old deer is not getting a adequate food supply then the odds of that deer growing a nice rack soley on age alone is slim to none...

There are better ways than restricting to grow the deer..like i had in my plan..feeders that feed all yr..and also promote health..along with antler growing nutrients

Ok, so you can feed them until they get so fat that they can't walk.. but still,  if they don't get older their antlers won't grow bigger...the fact is that in the first 2 years of a bucks existence the majority of nutrition goes to building their body to maturity... so regardless of how much nutrition they get their antler will only get so big.. even captive deer don't grow the monster racks at 2.5 ... it's just a biological fact.

Do your homework..antler growth has nothing to do with age..its nutrition...

It has alot to do with age, actually age is the number one factor in antler growth. A deer's body will not dedicate the full amount of resources toward the antlers that it possibly can until the rest of its skeleton reaches its peak size and maturity, usually around 4 years old. Do some research on antler growth, youll see.

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!

We will be publishing the new list of available hunting leases on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 7:30 AM on our website www.cottonhanlon.com
Cotton-Hanlon is a private timber company that owns land in NY and PA (sorry all our land in PA is currently leased). We have been leasing land since the fall of 1970. You will be dealing directly with the us, no third parties.
Still working on the list but it looks like we'll have woodlots available in the following counties in NY: Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Oswego, Schuyler, Tioga and Tompkins.
Make sure to check it out first thing that morning for the best choices.
      Thanks, Bob

Wondering if anyone has an extra DMP tag for 4W.
Long shot I know and would be happy to get a 1C to exchange. Or trade my turkey tag. Wasn't sure where I would be hunting and never got a deer yet.
