Eagles of Onondaga

I am always amazed when I come here. I only spotted 40 Eagles today!! There were 60-80 a week ago. If you get the chance it is a spectacular sight. You can’t see this many Bald Eagles anywhere besides Alaska.

 

 

On top of that hundreds of ducks, swans etc….

Was thinking about this the other day how many eagles there are around now. See them quite often on Oneida. Not as many as there for sure, that's amazing.

Went to carousel mall with the kids, saw 50+ I read that they winter there. America, f×(<! Yeah!!! Made the kids listen to the star spangled banner while we watched them.

If you time it right in the spring there are thousands upon thousands of sea ducks in there, clouds of them. I had my camera out there a few springs ago, it was awesome.

There are many bald eagles that live in the Montezuma wildlife refuge. There are a few nests a few miles from my house right off 31 in Congels compound. I see them feeding on road kill deer. The juveniles look really cool with all the spots on them.

Before I left Long Island it was getting very common to see them.I'm not sure if they hunt mammals but I can't see them getting any fish this time of the year.Plenty of squirrels.

There’s a pair where chef and I have been ice fishing. Their nest is super impressive in size.

In the lake in winter the warm water outlet at the water treatment plant keeps a small area open even in the coldest temperatures. This brings in lots of fish which is why at times close to 100 Eagles winter here. It’s something to see an Eagle or two. It’s another to see this many. They catch lots of fish. That is why they are here it’s a fish buffet.
I’m surprised they don’t eat duck!

I'm sure a few ducks are harmed there every year, don't see how it can't happen from time to time. I kayaked to the wooded area they sit in a few springs ago on the lake. It smelled horrid, there were thousands of half eaten shad carcasses littering the ground from the winter.
