  1. I believe that that statement about whether he does more harm than good is pretty much an unsubstantiated opinion. Yes, opinion is what forums are meant for, but let's not confuse opinion with fact. My thoughts are based solely on the factual ways that he presents gun and hunting issues. I mean you all have worked all around the fact that he alone engages the public and does frame and present the debate in factual ways that are impossible to argue with. You have all apparently missed the point that no one else is doing this. And apparently you feel that this kind of thing is not necessary. Well let me point out for those that are unaware of it, that there is a whole crowd of very public, very well financed, and very dedicated and very vocal anti public figures working very hard for the hearts and minds of the uncommited. I do believe that those public anti-hunting and anti-gun personalities cannot go unchallenged. I don't happen to think that we have any spokespeople to squander especially when there are no other ones waiting to take on that role. So as stated before, while we spend all our energies shooting our own messengers, the opposition enjoys a united front, and dedicated singularity of purpose free of our style of self destructive nit-picking. That's not a real good situation for those of us that still believe in hunting and 2nd amendment rights.

  2. If you have ever used an electric fence, or know someone who has one you should read this. The language used is a bit salty, but 'he tells it like it is' without cursing. If you don't laugh hysterically at this, CHECK YOUR PULSE... this is funny... and true. This was sent by a retired dentist. We have the standard 6 ft. fence in the backyard, and a few months ago, I heard about burglaries increasing dramatically in the entire city. To make sure this never happened to me, I got an electric fence and ran a single wire along the top of the fence. Actually, I got the biggest cattle charger Tractor Supply had, made for 26 miles of fence. I then used an 8 ft. long ground rod, and drove it 7.5 ft. into the ground. The ground rod is the key, with the more you have in the ground, the better the fence works. One day I'm mowing the back yard with my cheapo Wal-Mart6 hp big wheel push mower. The hot wire is broken and laying out in the yard. I knew for a fact that I unplugged the charger. I pushed the mower around the wire and reached down to grab it, to throw it out of the way. It seems as though I hadn't remembered to unplug it after all. Now I'm standing there, I've got the running lawnmower in my right hand and the 1.7 giga-volt fence wire in the other hand. Keep in mind the charger is about the size of a marine battery and has a picture of an upside down cow on fire on the cover. Time stood still. The first thing I notice is my pecker trying to climb up the front side of my body. My ears curled down wards and I could feel the lawnmower ignition firing in the backside of my brain. Every time that Briggs & Stratton rolled over, I could feel the spark in my head. I was literally at one with the engine It seems as though the fence charger and the piece of shit lawnmower were fighting over who would control my electrical impulses. Science says you cannot crap, pee, and vomit at the same time. I beg to differ. Not only did I do all three at once, but my bowels emptied 3 different times in less than half of a second. It was a Matrix kind of bowel movement, where time is creeping along and you're all leaned back and BAM BAM BAM you just crap your pants 3 times. It seemed like there were minutes in between but in reality it was so close together. It was like exhaust pulses from a big block Chevy turning 8 grand. At this point I'm about 30 minutes (maybe 2 seconds) into holding onto the fence wire. My hand is wrapped around the wire palm down so I can't let go. I grew up on a farm so I know all about electric fences. But Dad always had those piece of shit chargers made by International or whoever that were like 9 volts and just kinda tickled. This one I could not let go of. The 8 ft. long ground rod is now accepting signals from me through the permadamp Ark-La-Tex river bottom soil. At this point I'm thinking I'm going to have to just man up and take it, until the lawnmower runs out of gas. 'Damn!,' I think, as I remember I just filled the tank! Now the lawnmower is starting to run rough. It has settled into a loping run pattern as if it had some kind of big lawnmower race cam in it. Covered in poop, pee, and with my vomit on my chest, I think 'Oh God please die... Pleeeeaze die'. But nooooo, it settles into the rough lumpy cam idle nicely and remains there, like a big bore roller cam EFI motor waiting for the go command from its owner's right foot. So here I am in the middle of July, 104 degrees, 80% humidity, standing in my own backyard, begging God to kill me. God did not take me that day. He left me there covered in my own fluids to writhe in the misery my own stupidity had created. I honestly don't know how I got loose from the wire. I woke up laying on the ground hours later. The lawnmower was beside me, out of gas. It was later on in the day and I was sunburned. There were two large dead grass spots where I had been standing, and then another long skinny dead spot where the wire had laid while I was on the ground still holding on to it. I assume I finally had a seizure and in the resulting thrashing had somehow let go of the wire. Upon waking from my electrically induced sleep I realized a few things: 1 - Three of the fillings in my teeth have melted. 2 - I now have cramps in the bottoms of my feet and my right butt cheek (not the left, just the right). 3 - Poop, pee, and vomit when all mixed together, do not smell as bad as you might think. 4 - My left eye will not open. 5 - My right eye will not close. 6 - The lawnmower runs like a sumbitch now. Seriously! I think our little session cleared out some carbon fouling or something, because it was better than new after that. 7 - My nads are still smaller than average yet they are almost a foot long. 8 - I can turn on the TV in the game room by farting while thinking of the number 4 (still don't understand this???). That day changed my life. I now have a newfound respect for things. I appreciate the little things more, and now I always triple check to make sure the fence is unplugged before I mow. The good news, is that if a burglar does try to come over the fence, I can clearly visualize what my security system will do to him, and THAT gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling all over, which also reminds me to triple check before I mow.

  4. While Ted is not the best rep. and I think we all agree on this, he gets us talking. Does he represent me as a hunter NO, but you can be dam sure I back him 100% with the 2nd ammendment. The fact that he is a draft dodger, poacher, and acts crazy does not change my point of view on my right as a gun owner. The media hates him so anything that he does bad is viewed by all. The people in Hollywood, the media and politicians with a voters mentality are our enemy, most have no concept of hunting and probably never go into the woods or have ever fired a gun or killed a animal and gone through the entire process of cleaning Apreciating and eating our food. Due to those facts they will NEVER be on our side. Bambi has won thier hearts and they will never understand what hunting and nature is realy about. This is why we will never have another Hollywood rep in the NRA, It will kill thier carrier................................................... We are seen as a blood thirsty trophy hunters by the anti's who kill for pleasure. When was the last time you saw a hunter take a nice deer and then thank the lord? Does not happen enough. Next time you make a video will you think about how well you represent hunters? It is so easy for anti's to say hunters are a bad people who hate animals. YouTube shows many bad hunters with no respect for thier prey... Yet those same people would complain if we did not hunt and thier auto rates and price of food went up due to crop decimation/over population. Untile we get a better rep. I will not advocate Ted yet I will not put down his points on the 2nd ammendment, he is right... As much of a black eye that he puts on us all he still gets our point accross that we will not stand for our rights being overrun. Do you know the anti's want to allow the UN to take over our rights making guns illegal except for law enforcement. While I do not like Ted as a representative for hunting, his points on gun rights are sound, that is enough for me untile I see another person who will step up to the plate for us he has my full support as a 2nd ammendment advocate... No one else has the you know what to do it... And for that he has my respect and support on my rights as a gun owner. Happy Mothers Day!!!

  5. Thankfully i am blessed to spend today celebrating 3 wonderful gun supporting mothers. My mom raised 4 boys, all hunters, 3 concealed carriers and one working towards his. My mother-in-law was married to a police officer and raised 2 daughters. Jackie is now the only women in the state of Pennsylvania to have reached some pistol certification for training(i honestly don't know which certification? ) and my beautiful wife who is a writer, concealed carrry permit holder and a great shot i might add, will be doing an article for Rochester Womens Magazine on women and guns for next months issue. Through their love of country and family, they managed to very quietly foster a 100% pro-gun family tree. Well I guess there were a few Ted Moments along the way LOL.. Happy Mothers Day to you all..

  7. With it being Mothers Day and obviously such a busy day for Ted with all those cards to write and gifts to deliver I am fine with a reprieve.

  8. I agree with Bubba, it's mother's day so lets leave the Mother _ _ _ _ _ _ alone. BTW this thread is doing no harm, push come to shove we all stand together.

  9. The VOICE(s)...our Voice...is out there. Spoken by the Dads and Grandads that introduce kids to guns/shooting/hunting...Spoken by those many selfless volunteer Hunter Safety Instructors...Spoken by the Moms and Grandmas that cook and serve the game we bring home. These voices that support/protect our hunting/shooting heritage are not necessarily loud...are not profane...BUT THEY GET THE JOB DONE!!! Make sure your voice is among them!

  10. Charlton Heston is dead and Tom Selleck shows no interest in getting into the battle. But there are George Clooneys all over the place. I guess it's time to simply let the libs keep the stage when it comes to the battle for the hearts and minds of the fence-sitters .... eh? You people don't seem to understand that we don't have a whole lot of options if we want any public figures at all actively countering all the george Clooneys of the world. You all seem to completely side-step that situation as you revel in your bashing of Nugent. By the way, most likely the reason that Selleck and others don't go out of their way to become active public advocates may just have something to do with the weird euphoria so many of us feel as we gleefully destroy our advocates.

  12. You guys who say you know what the public in general thinks, are making assumptions. Can you post a poll that would back up what you are saying? I believe the general public is smart enough to know who Ted is and what he does. I think they accept all of that and at the same time find it curious that he can involve himself quite intelligently in a very serious subject. Those who believe he doesn't do the 2nd Amendment any good are also making assumptions. It may not be pretty how he does it, but he is bringing the issue to the general public and is doing it convincingly. The subject is on the table and is being discussed by folks who had no idea there was another side of the issue prior to Ted bringing it to their TV. The public is smart enough to intepret what part of Ted is Rock & Roll, and what part of his message is factual and true. I believe they see him as a performer and do not think all hunters and shooters are looney because he acts that way to get attention. Any intelligent member of the general public is wise enough to hear the facts he speaks and take them into consideration, while rejecting all of the bravado and rudeness of the rock star. That, my friends, is how he is helping us. He is getting a positive, factual message about guns and hunting, out to the public, so they are hearing it and absorbing it, and he is doing it in an entertaining, albeit crude, fashion. But that is what the public tunes in to see. the train wreck coming. That's why he is getting the podium so often and that's why he does it. Hunters and shooters with a negative, judgemental attitude about his style of getting the message out there are making a mistake. The media isn't going to give the podium to anyone who isn't going to bring in ratings, therefore the message will never get to the general public if it is coming from the likes of the perfect spokesman so many of you think it should come from. The media wants the public to think all hunters and shooters are like Ted. I think the public knows we aren't, and is starting to realize the trash they've heard about guns and hunting is BS too. And you can all thank Ted for that.

  15. My personal favorite is my 1964 Remington 700 BDL in .308 with a 20" barrel. The bolt action gun you need is the one that YOU like...all the manufacturers listed are excellent and it will come down to your preferences: Caliber, Wood vs Synthetic, Blind magazine vs Hinged trap door vs clip, short action or long action. What ever you do, don't buy your bolt action gun to impress anyone else but yourself - LOL
