  2. yes I use to buy 25 rock Cornish straight run and when they got to a good weight butcher them....I'll be honest....gutting and cleaning a chicken...can put you off chicken meat....they are just the nastiest smelling things going...and I don't care how clean you keep them ...their insides stink...lol Not to mention the occational one that would break free from the killing funnel and the hassle of trying to catch the headless thing before it spewed blood all over...they can run a surprisingly long time with out a head....freaked the kids out the first time it happened....lol

  3. Take the camera and leave a note on the tree with my number. I would also check the card, delete the pictures, and then replace it. Can't take the chance of there being a big buck on there and enticing them to come back.

  4. Sorry there oh great wise one, but like I already said Clearly you make shit up! I have had one of my kids with me opening day for a very long time, as well as a few others in camp. You see to some of us we actually love our kids and take great enjoyment of sharing our passions with them. Opening day without them isnt opening day at all in my eyes. Now just go away because you have nothing worth even mentioning in this thread.

  5. Some very interesting points brought up, all good ones. Very strong arguements. Makes me wonder how 1000 hunters can make the determination for the whole hunting community. They lean towards the majority, but 1000 hunters at 20 meetings ,come on. Out of all of the 100s of thousand of hunting licenses sold in NY, Then they do a scientific survey, this decides the fate of the 5 year deer plan, OMG. Oh and the 30 day comment period, someone reads them and tosses in the garbage.

  6. I know Charlie hasnt officially done his big reveal yet, but I can spell it out according to his theory, and the D&DH calendar for 2012. The Autumnal Equinox for this year falls on Sept 22, making the rutting moon October 29. According to Charlie's theory, we should start seeing light seeking starting around th 24-25th of October. The seeking should escalate to full chase phase around the 30-31st of October. The breeding phase should start the following week, right around the 6-7th of November and should be finished up by the 17-18th, then the second rut should be into seeking/chase phase. Looks to me like the second half of bow should be killer this year!

  8. Ist off guys I dont think there will be that many people in the woods if there is a special season. How many hunters have 14 and 15 yr olds that have licenses? I think it is like 1 percent of the hunting population. I honestly think there will be more poachers that weekend than kids in the woods. I really think it should be the 2 days before reg season because that would really get the kids pumped. If that does not get them pumped than nothing will. As for calling guys trolls and telling people there stupid, come on guys really. I watched 2 guys almost get into a fistfight over this BS two weeks ago at my gunclub.

  9. Fawns are easy, just throw them over your shoulder and walk out. Id much rather go through the sweat of dragging that big boy out though. Even better, I would just strap him to my deer cart and wheel him out nice and easy like.

  10. If their intentions were pure, the special youth season would be the weekend before opening day. Two full days of unpressured deer in the peak of the rut in fall like conditions. Not summer like conditions with bugs, heat, green leaves on the trees, and the possibility of rotten meat if not wisked away to the butcher asap. Also makes sense to keep special gun seasons in gun season for obvious safety reasons.

  11. Full chasing by end of October? While I think some of his info is reliable, I question that. I think everyone has seen a doe in heat that week/weekend and tons of seeking, but full chase (80% activity)? I doubt that. I think gestational studies seem to be much more reliable to give you the data you need...I'm thinking more along the lines of November 2-7. Full chase imo is shorter than a week.

  12. I too would agree the SW Bodygaurd .380 or it's competitor the Ruger LCP .380 for everyday carry. Same gun really but I do like the way the laser activates a bit better on the Ruger than the SW. I have the SW.

  13. I like the seeking phase....it's during bow and they aren't running full board...nothing more frustrating than siting and watch a parade of buck and doe running in and out around your stand and never slowing down or stopping long enough for a shot...and all I can do is curse the doe under my breath ...telling her to bring him in and then stop running!!

  16. Come on Man... take the 1st weekend in Nov. Then trade for the second - that way you're covered for both! hehehehe

  17. I would without a doubt go for the weekend in Nov.. That was the easy part. As for the 2-3-4 or 9-10-11 well thats a toss up.. My years of serious rut hunting have told me that the 4th through about the 9th are the absolute best times to see intense chasing and the best times to see mature bucks. If i were in your situation, I would choose the first weekend. You may be a tad early for the best chasing but you will be solidly in the seeking/chasing and should see plenty of activity if you hunt sun up to sun down... No excuses- hunt all day period.

  18. You know what amazes me Sits, is that you just posted how stupid we are to believe everything that the media tells us and then you speww this govt-media talking point.scare tactic as if it is as certain as the sun coming up in the east. You have been dupped again by your cnbc-cnn-msnbc pundents. look at the people most worried about this CRISIS. Brenenke, Giethner. and the CBO - The supposed neutral commitee led by that women who was Oboma's spokesperson before she was named to be Head of this NEUTRAL CBO. Give me a break. Oh and then there is Jamie Diamond (JPM) and Goldman sax, shouting about the dangers coming Jan 1st. Wake up big man... Your such a fool.. Looks like you'll believe anything that Thieves and Commies tell you. It's all part of the game plan. Create panic to get the policies you want. Do us a favor and move to Canada before Nov. so we don't have to worry about your "D" vote..

  21. I agree, lowering the age is probably the best way. I do kinda miss the party at camp before the Monday opener. On the other hand, its just more days to hunt.

  24. I agree with woodsman20. Based on personal experience mature does are not nearly as elusive as a larger bucks... I will concede that older does have it over small bucks... there is something to be said for age and experience.

  25. Skillett - my point was that the weakness is simply that they move more during daylight hours period. You can't shoot something that you don't see which mature bucks seem to have nailed down. I agree Doc and to quote one of my favorite lines of all time - " If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised ..." I have been around (20 yards or less) mature does more times than I can count and they are smart - no doubt - but where I hunt and in my experience, a mature buck is like hunting a different animal. They are on another playing field. If one were to choose a mature doe and a mature buck (a specific one not any) my money is on the mature doe being harvested. Nonetheless "smart" could have many meanings. I would not say mature does that are protecting their fawns are dumb ... but because of this I think they are subject to being harvested easier than a mature buck. My two cents.
