  1. Hey guys, After seeing a post earlier i have to say this, I am an avid small game hunter, I currently dont have my archery tag as i couldnt get into a course this year(my fault i waited too long). But as i was raised and hunted with my father and grandfather growing up i was taught to respect any and all hunters in the woods. that means if im hunting small game in the early season and i see that there may be other hunters in the woods you pay even more attention and respect their hunting area, i personally have never walked up on another hunter in the woods and try to steer clear of them if i do happen to see them. but the woods are fair game for all of us and we should all be respectful of each individuals pursuit of their choice in game to take at any given time assuming it is in a legal manner. Now to what i read, you die hard archery guys that are complaining about the youth hunt and small game hunters ruining your day in the stand, wake up and remember it is those youths and small game guys and gals that help keep hunting a sport we can all enjoy. Now i also understand not all hunters have the same respect when they see blaze orange in a stand 100 yards away, i personally am not going to pull up to pick off a squirrel if i see an archer in stand. thats just not right, there is alot of game in season this time of year and we all need to be able to respect and enjoy the sport we have to spend so much money on to enjoy. sorry for going on and on but it pisses me off when i hear people talkin bad about the youth hunts and small game hunters "ruining" a day in the archery stand.

  2. Hey guys...finally scored one this morning after alot of action this week...high angle quartering toward gave me a fit to recover...225 yards of occasional pin drops through two sets of thick pines sandwiched by tall mountain laurel...finally found him where he collapsed...small amount of intestine jamming and protruding through his exit hole kept the blood in for the most part. Nice-Bodied Barely legal spike (just under 3") taken from my cabin in Delaware State Forest in the Pennsylvania Poconos: Quarted this afternoon at the cabin, now back in 7j and ready to butcher tomorrow: Freezer will be atleast 1/3 full!

  3. Good for you...I agree I have been an archery hunter as well as small game hunter so it's not like I'm taking sides. For the archers, there is a benefit to having small game guys in the woods during archery season.. They push the deer.. It's like having a drive. Granted it is not a controlled drive, but they sure can get those deer moving from their beds in the day... There's always a chance that some hunter will unintentionally disrupt another. I've had turkeys answer my calls and were heading my way only to be shot by other hunters before they got to me.. I had it with waterfowl too. Both happened to me more than once..It's just the way it is if you hunt land(or water) with public access. .. As long as we all respect each other there is no reason for friction..Don't we get enough grief from the antis

  12. That's kind of how things were on the state land that I hunt. And the two cars that were parked in the parking lot could have been bowhunters or small game hunters, or even hikers or bikers. So I don't know whether anyone was there because of the youth hunt. That is all pretty much as I had predicted. I'm beginning to wonder if the DEC estimate of 8000 statewide might have been badly mis-judged. Of course I will admit that the rain at the beginning of the day sure didn't help a lot.

  18. IMHO if you can hit a pie plate at 25 yards then you will be in a deer's vitals.

  19. Reports from PA-CT of sightings, trail camera photos, dna evidence and oh yea one got killed by a car last year in CT http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/13/nyregion/mountain-lion-is-found-in-connecticut.html?_r=0 PS:There is a reason they call Penn State the Nittany Lions!

  20. Always have a ratchet with me, You're crazy walking the woods without one. I was coming out the other night and I had a gray fox coming running up within 10 feet of me. He stopped and looked figured something was wrong and split. He was 1 foot away from a Speer .38 JHP +P. I love how states keep denying that these exist with the overwhelming amoun of proof that they do!

  23. Nice picture, if only DEC acknowledged that they were in fact in Ny. The longer they wait the worse...

  24. I do not use a harness. if I fall out of the chair in my ground blind, I will just get back up.

  25. I have my harness set so its taunt when I'm sitting and loose when I'm standing. I won't fall more than a few inchs and will be able to use my stand to get righted again. The largest danger I feel is while climbing

  26. Had some luck last night hunting in 8J. This guy came in around 630 walking the edge of the swamp and woods. I had seen him a couple times scouting an was trying to decide whether to take him or not. He turned out to be better then I originally thought with some cool browtines making 11 scoreable points. He gave me a 30 yd broadside shot and the G5 did the rest hitting the heart and left lung. He expired within 30 yds of me. I was happy for a good clean kill. Great way to start this early season!

  28. nah dont listen to them. Stay with the 06. The 25-06 that is. Light recoil great bullet selection for anything from varmints to deer

  29. I would think 2" would be good enough. Your shooting a 9in target at 100 yrds or less most of the time. Not prarie dogs at 500 yrds. Shoot, big ole mossy horns steps out youll be all over that 9 in's anyhow.
