That would've been my pic as well.

I agree shot placement is everything. I've was on a track for a 308 wounded deer that was a 1/2 long. The shooter swore he made a good shot,.... Not so much. This 243 doesn't have the terminal energy of 30-06 or 270 WSM, which is mostly what I have used my whole life for deer. I bought his rifle because I got an awesome deal on it (Savage 14),.... I always wanted one. I put quality glass on it and I really like the way it shoots. I'm 44 and in 16 yrs I plan on retiring to South Carolina. The 243 is a cult fav down there for Low Country deer and hogs. I have always and I'll continue to only take quality shots that put deer on the dirt. I don't see that changing. With the right loading the 243 poison pill should do just fine. When I get around to it I will post a pic of the rifle. All that said, when I'm deep in the swamps, I will prob hunt with my 35 Rem. but in the opened hardwoods it will be the 243 all the way.

Great vid,... Nice deer. Wear the harness no deer is worth being a quadriplegic.

Any new info or stats on the invaders?????

With all of the silliness of the UnSafe Act and he hoarding of components, my magic deer slaying 243 formula has been altered to: 33.5 grs of Varget with a 100 gr Hornady Interlock SP. Still puts brown down. Savage Model 14 loves the load.

Hunter49 got it right.

It's a little plastic ring that goes around the blades. At impact is sheers off.

Couldn't be more wrong the ballistic coefficient is as high in a 243 95 gr Nosler as it is for a 30-06 150 gr Nosler. You can check it out yourself. Listen you can shoot what you want, the facts and the venison speak for themselves. I've dressed too many deer to count shot by 243 in the vitals. The lungs turn into soup. As far as kids shooting it due to recoil,.... I'm 43, 6' tall and way 200 pounds. I'm hardly recoil shy..... I have everything from 300 Wby Mag to 22/250 in my safe. The fact is, I'd take a 243 to the deer woods as fast as I'd take a 30-06.
-
Deer are considered medium game. That said a 243 to the vitals weather it be in tight cover or across a field is gonna have the same result as a 30-06 or any larger caliber would..... A deer on the ground. The same is true for bad shots,.... Put a 30-06 or a 243 across the hips and you'll have a wounded deer. We talk about hunting and not war on this site......
-
No excuses for bigger calibers offsetting bad shooting or not making shots with guaranteed vital hits. Don't fall for the negative hype...... 243 Win will put deer on the ground all day long. Especially with today's modern bullets. Check out the Savage Model 14 American Classic. I'm in the process of setting one up. I'm using a new Bushnell Trophy with the DOA Reticle. The rifle and glass will fit your budget.

It may not be going away,... But it's getting bigger. Medicare is going broke, illegal immigrants are allowed many of the same rights as citizens. We are paying for it all,... -
Hornady SST is accurate and deadly,....
-
Wow I this thing fast and super accurate.

Can you all come over and watch my kids,... My back is killing me from carrying the welfare system on my shoulders for the last four years..... I don't see any relief in sight of the next four years either. -
That's awesome. I have my Dads old 1903 and 7400 (both 30-06) that I have hunted with. It's almost like having them with you again.

Hunt travel routs between beds and food. Give up calling.

I've been a big Nikon fan,.... That said the New Bushnell Trophy with the DOA reticles are really nice. They are super clear. I just bought one for a Savage Model 14, 243 Win I just ordered. It's a lot of scope for the money.

All about the tight cover stands....336 Marlin 35 Rem with 200 gr XTP's over 38 grs of Varget. That and a Ruger Blackhawk 45 Long Colt with 27 grs of H110 and a 250 gr Nosler. When sitting our stands on the fields its a 700 by Red Hawk Rifles in 30-06 with 150 gr Noslers over 60.5 grs of RL19.

I have a Wicked Ridge Invader. Its shoots a 500 gr bolt at 325 FPS. I want to use my Rage 100 gr two blade heads that I use for my PSE compound on my Xbow. Rage tells me that I should buy a set of Rage Legacy Lock Collars so the blades dont pop out due to the radical crossbow speeds. It doesn't seem logical to introduce another moving part on this. Anyone have any experience, are they just blowing sunshine up my kilt trying to sell me more stuff???
-
guess I shouldn't run out and buy one just yet. When is the vote hapening?
-
so next year no x-bows in the archery season still, just in the regular season......? Is that correct?
-
so whats the final word on this? Will they be allowed in bow season next year or not? Seems to me like there would have been a smiliar debate when compounds were invented and becoming popular in the eary 1970's. Now 50 years later,.....

The S2 is a two stage trigger. Newer shooters and black gun enthusiasts will not have any problem with it. For longtime Sporter bolt action shooters it would be a taste that will need acquiring, lol. I do better with no slack in a trigger.
