  1. Get state land maps. The knocking on doors days for land to hunt are over. Like Gramps said there's a ton of info right here on this forum. Groups and clubs are something I've gotten away from years ago. All politics, dues, and volunteer work. Just get out in the woods. And YouTube is great for techniques, deer gutting, rifle reviews. NY has over a million acres of state lands and forest preserve, etc
  2. No but a hotdog could be considered a wurst
  3. Backs of my elbows and legs look like I have small pox
  4. Man I can not wait! I have a group of does bedding in a food plot right in front of a camera. They spend most of the day lazing around, they get up and feed a bit and lay down again. What a friggin life
  5. Looks like T-shirts and mosquito spray for another week.
  6. I hear alot of blame going to the doomsday prepper groups too but alot of that crowd that I know has given up on buying ammo for two reasons, one is they have pretty good stockpiles already and most preppers won't pay a buck fifty per round of 5.56. Yea we've had many surges of new group buyers in the past but but it would always settle down and things would go back to normal after a few months. And the theory that people are buying everything has me puzzled because the gun stores around here will tell you, I have nothing to sell you you. Demand my be high but this more and more looks like it's a supply side problem. Can't even blame it on Biden or Covid because this supply deficiency has been going on since early in Trumps term.
  7. I'm pretty sure by the time this levels out ammo makers will have us paying a 100 bucks for a 50 Rd box of fmj 9mm target ammo. Create fake shortages and charge more. Worked pretty good when oil companies raised the price for gas from .50 cents a gallon to 3 bucks in a period of two years back in the early 70s, and put all the blame on the Saudi OPEC cartel.
  8. 3 years ago I heard this ammo shortage would be over in a few months. We've had so many rushes on ammo and guns in recent history and things always leveled out in a few months with some price increase. Now I know of many hunters who can't even find ammo for their deer rifles this season. And if your lucky enough to come across it you'll pay 70 dollars for 20 rounds. The theory that manufacturers won't tool up for short term surges is crazy too. Companies could easily have invested in the additional equipment to produce for this long term demand a long time ago and paid for that equipment a long time ago
  9. I know land owners who hunt public land to escape neighboring land owners who bait, target practice during hunting season, run noisey assed 4 wheelers and dirt bikes all day long. Here in Ulster if you don't mind walking you can get away from everything on all the state land we have here
  10. Yep there is that time period when I pull my cards and say, Where TF did he come from. That's get busy time for me... having does around is the best bait
  11. That's what I thought. Was like WTF did I do now???
  12. Actually thinking if digging out my climber and giving that a go. I hunt public dirt during turkey and rifle
  13. I love being in the woods and get my fair share of wilderness time being retired, logging, and turkey hunting but sitting on the stand when I know all I'm going to see are the same does is something I can pass on until I'm ready to shoot one. Last couple deer seasons have been slow with deer settling into the bow season routine. Last couple yrs I had to wait for the rut and rifle season to shake up the checker board. The last week of bow when the rut is hot is when I'll be spending many hrs in the stand. Other than that lack of bow season bucks around me let's me get other things done.
  14. I know my property well and have cams set up on two stands that overlook my food plots. What I'm seeing on my cams and seeing in my fields at night gives me a pretty good picture of what's around. Things that change that are the rut or other hunters pushing deer which happens on opening day of rifle. It's early in the season and things change
  15. I do enjoy heading out to pull my cards. Nothing like getting in and checking out what's up out there. Had a huge Martin a week ago
  16. I think my venison works out to 160$ a pound
  17. I'm not ready to harvest a doe and I'm waiting for that big unsuspecting early season buck. Problem is my cams are showing me the same fork horns, a Lil 4pt and a spiker with a bunch of does. Not much to get me enthusiastic about getting up in the morning. Years ago I before cameras told you the story of what's going on out there I would have been been out waiting for that big buck never knowing he's not there. When the rut starts to heat up and bucks start to travel for does then yea I'll be out there regardless of what cams are showing. Cams are great but definitely have changed the way I hunt
  18. Is it possible they are just two aging deer near the end of their existence.
  19. Always weird walking out into the woods at dark the first time of the season.
  20. Man I hope these friggin skeeters die off
