  1. Happened very sudden around here in south Ulster. Only a few years ago I was watching flocks of 40 plus birds walk under my stand all the time. I'd look out my front door and see the whole front yard covered with them. Now they're down on Long Island, my sister in Medford has them everywhere. Something or a combination of things pretty much wiped them out around here.
  2. Hey who remembers these things? 35mm, LMAO. I actually had one and between the noise it made winding the film and flash I'm pretty sure it scared more deer out of the area where I had it than anything else. Never got more than a shocked to sh*t deer pic or two or complete nitetime washouts. I remember guys giving me hell on Archery talk for using one because of the unfair technological advantage it gave, lol.
  3. Getting out this afternoon. Saw some younger forkhorns nudging some does. Could be starting
  4. Yea and slide the butt stock to it's shortest position. No need for that thing sticking right into my hiatal hernia
  5. I bought the Walmart one with the guard rail and rachet thing. Never used the rachet feature just because of the additional fuss to assemble the tightening strap. I do however really pull the regular nylon straps around really tight then cinch em down. I have my son hold the base of the stand and it's very stable to climb and reach around at top to put the main strap on.
  6. Hooooolddd on. I recently bought the CP Amped 425, basically the same bow and it's advertised at 15.75 ATA. I put a tap from limb tip to limb tip and it measures 17 inch's exactly. Pretty sure NY specs are tip to tip not ATA. So with that being said these new CPs are hard to beat. Off a rest I can put arrows into a 4 in circle at 60 yds and have to shoot at different spots on the target at 30 for fear of splitting arrows. They are Chinese made buy what isn't.
  7. Pulled my old Excals out a while ago. Did alittle more sighting with both of them yesterday and have to say I'm ready. Rut should be heating up soon, and getting cold, yep this is what I'm talking about
  8. Seems like two out of three and your busted. Hear a click and pick up your scent and off they go. See you and catch a wiff, adios. Depends how close also
  9. They seem to trust their noses the most. Once winded it's usually game over. They see you or see you move and sometimes they'll let it pass after giving you a good stare down. I shut my eyes.
  10. I'm not rutting yet. But did see two youngin forkhorns battling. More rubs popping up everyday. And a couple bigger bucks Ive seen earlier have moved on. So they are traveling. Just wish they would travel to my area. No chasing at all. I know, it's early yet but things should start popping soon
  11. Me too. I won't do any recreational shooting on my property till after Christmas
  12. Sounds like you might have hit the shoulder blade. The Broadhead probably just penetrated the shoulder blade but not far enough to catch the lungs. The arrow loosened up and dangled about as the deer ran off but was held in place but the Broadhead being just on the other side of the shoulder blade.
  13. I understand where you guys are coming from. I was on the stand yesterday afternoon and only one hr in the stand a neighboring property owner starts rapid firing some kind of big bore rifle. Well that drove off two yearlings I was watching and even though they stopped shooting I climbed outta my stand and went home and had a beer.
  14. Picked a beautiful region to retire in. I'm near the ridges of lower Ulster County way back in the woods. Love it here. Told the kids when I die take my ashes and spread them on the property.
  15. Same hear, had one turn over a BBQ on my back deck. We heard the bang, looked out and there he was looking back at us like where's the brats man.
  16. I just like seeing them. Don't have any real interest in shooting one other than they keep me busy all summer picking up garbage.
  17. Looks damn good. Ah and real coal, What Men Use....non of that yuppie gas stuff!
  18. Can you make a living trapping today or is it more of a side venture?
  19. I have my plots further from the house and my clover has really thrived this yr. The wet summer has my plots looking really good now ,but will have to see what the first couple frosts bring. Right now does are in my plots day and night
  20. I'm at a point in life where getting up that 17 ft into my stand requires me to have my wits about me. Especially in the dark. I do enjoy my beers with a brandy follower afterwards.
  21. I was born and grew up in Queens. Almost everyone hunted. Alot of guys own second homes or camps upstate. I think this idea that if your from with the city limits your completely detached from hunting. Maybe your elitist Manhattanittes fall into the your gonna kill Bambi crowd. Don't know, I never fit into that income group
  22. Yea, should be voting for shitbag republicans I guess
  23. I understand that but I'm not about to head into the woods this buck is lurking in and start cutting now. I'll just sneak in one or two days a week to sit in my stand and swap a card at most and maybe get a shot. Did a pretty good job lane clearing back in September. I've spooked bucks like this out of an area by just hunting the same stand for two days straight. They don't grow to this size around here unless their really smart. If all fails maybe the rut will make things happen. I have 6 to 10 or so does coming to my two food plots on a regular basis.
