Practice wearing what you wear hunting - I missed
NFA-ADK replied to nybuckboy's topic in Bow Hunting
I find it hard when I have the hood on to anchor so I tend to keep it off or at least behind my ear. Otherwise I try to pull it back when I draw so my thumb can lock into my jaw for anchor. Another reason I don't like the face mask when bow hunting it tends to interfere with my anchor. Hope you get another shot at him! Good luck! I find it harder to shoot with a day pack on too with gun and bow... I should practice with it more... -
Sell Sell Sell!!! That would be too funny!!! Good luck! Sounds like things are going your way. See if you can keep the hunting privilege too lol that would cap it off!

The season is open. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28945.html And if the population is large enough they can cause some real damage on fawn survival... A large pack can take down any lame deer or young adult. If the winter is especially hard they can have a big impact when snow gets deep and deer are struggling just to survive. I wish you all the luck hunting them as they are very illusive. Your best option if you are new to hunting them is to pick up a book on how to do it and this web site has many really good hunters and some of them go for coyotes specifically... Calles and decoys work well with this predator but they can smell, hear and see better than there prey... Good luck, hope you GETSOME!!!

That is pretty cool! -
Remember it is not just deer that can transmit ticks. Mice, rats and other animals can transfer this pest. Keep your cats indoors, spray your dog and check them on a daily basis if you live in one of these types of areas. Spray the clothes you use outside in these areas and your family's clothes that they use outside. Don't risk your health! Spray and check yourself every time you venture outside in these tick infested zones!!! Hoping for a good frost!!!

Yep they do it, not as much as doe. If you have doe in the area he will be back.

Sounds about right hard to tell with night pic.

So many times a good group of doe have given me more luck than anything else except for tracking... Funny but even when tracking the tracks of the bucks lead me to the doe, go figure... Huntscreek said it right! During, before and even sometimes after rut the girls are what give me my best chances at a mature buck... If I can find them, I stay with them or key in on where they go, those big bucks know what they want and it is not another buck that is for sure!!!

Not when this study is done below the 38th parallel... But you believe what you want...

GETSOME baby!!! Good Luck!

Definitely not lowly! My buddy Mike is a pure meat hunter, I think he will start to drool before he shoots... Nothing wrong with hunting for food! He comes up to the ADK with me and I know he will shoot any legal buck and most here know I am a mature/trophy type hunter but if he gets a legal spike I will be giving him a slap on the back!!! And get pictures! To each his own I say as long as its legal it's good in my book. I only tell people what I do but do not expect this of anyone including my hunting partner... Trophy hunters are the exception not the norm at least from my experience most are brown and down until they get some experience under their belt then they slow down and tend to go for the mature animal. Drools is his nickname that's my definition of a meat hunter. Meat Hunter = One who hunts for the purpose of food

Happy B-Day WNY BowHunter!!!

Just wondering... How did you get two doe tags for LI that allowed you to shoot two in one morning? Though after you used one you had to reaply...
-
That is AWESOME!!! Keep at it we all make mistakes, learn from it, and you become better... I always ask myself, what did I do wrong... Hunting is constant game of self improvement.

If they are walking to you they will walk away, be patient in a tree stand and go for the quartering away or broad side shot... If you shoot out of a stand, practice in a stand at all angles of shots you will take. Slow bows will hit the same spot at 10 yard and 30 when the rest is set to high due to ark. At 300 fps with a properly set up bow rest I have to aim about 1 inch low with my 20 yard pin at 5 ft -10 yards. If I use my 30 yard pin I might miss the target high... Everyone has different bows at different poundage and draw length and arrow rest differ, plain and simple if you take these shots you need to practice them... If they are directly under you wait, every step they take gives you a bigger target! I know this is easer said than done especially with a buck you want to shoot but it makes for a much better shot with more vitals exposed. If you really want a good, ethical, high percentage shot take a quartering away shot, even bad shots usually result in a kill with so much exposed and pass through usually results in easy tracking.
