The heart is good!!!

I did not even enter the woods until December last year on LI. I would not think about entering the LI wood without spraying...

Good luck guys! Can't wait.

Great advice IMO. Hunt all day, pack a lunch and enjoy.

70 is just about to hot for me to stalk without being drenched... Lucky for me I am told the land has many stands in place, my tree climber will get dusted off and ready for use if needed... One of the few things that will get me up in a stand is high temps and hunter density. Weatherman can not predict tomorrow so next week predictions do not bother me... Regardless of temp I will be hunting next weekend! Need to scratch the itch...

I always want to be in the woods Nov 7th on my B-day up north. The old timers always said that's the time crazy things happen in the woods from about November 10th - 24th depending on a bunch of factors... I think its a good idea. The later the better IMO but I like snow... Plus I like having more time to hunt vs setting up camp multiple times and the long trip to it. Many years snow happened on the last few days and I was able to key in on some doe but time did not allow enough hunting to find a buck. Hope this year I can find the massive buck tracks I found at the end of last year! 6th -16th then 22nd-7th providing work still allows my month long quest for another ADK buck!!!

That would be a really awesome 1 1/2 or nice 2 1/2. Great buck with some real potential even if he is a 2 1/2 he will be impressive next year I would think... If it was my land he would get a pass, the main beam needs to go past the ears for me... I think he is just a great 1 1/2!!! Good luck with him!!!

State land hunting is hard and hunter density can be maxed at times. Post back to let us know what you saw, how you liked it and the density of hunters during that time... Hope you get a 150 class monster and say he was the little guy... Good Luck!

The deer will love you!!!

Nice

I have seen them in Moose River Plains, awesome sight to see but they did not present much of a challenge. Funny how people always ask me about black bears when hunting, I tell them moose are a much bigger threat especially cows with a baby. Love to have a season for them in NY but I would not apply... My bucket list includes one more mature ADK buck then I think I am going to try Maine.

Very nice!!! Congratulations on your success!!!

Very nice, hope you get a monster so big you need a lot of help!!! Good luck with the surgery!!! Nice timing...

I have passed many deer but I enjoy being in the woods so much I could care less if I eat tag soup... It's a personal preference but I would encourage hunters to just take what ever makes you happy and beginners should get some under their belt for experience if that satisfies them... People change over years of hunting. I never even considered shooting doe as my main target but this year I will do my part and enjoy the feast I think... Watch I wont have a shot on one all year... O well TUESDAY!!! Arg I have to wait until Saturday ARG! OWW this is a good week to call in sick, cough cough I think by wed or Thursday I will have to take the rest of the week off... COUGH!!!

Plain and simple if you go above 3 ft get a safety line on... I climbed many trees as a kid but I always use a harness when hunting. Agree 100% Doc.

cool greece buck, shooter? can anyone age him?
NFA-ADK replied to doecomander's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
I would think 3 1/2. If you take him see if he has a wound on the opposite side. -
I do not hope for it but if you think luck does not play some part, well then I would say you have not hunted very much for any hunter who hunts long enough will admit to having some good or bad luck at one point during the many years put in... That being said the more prepared I am when hunting the better my luck becomes... The land/soil/residential/farm/forest and populations of doe, buck and hunter are huge factors in NY. State vs private, farm vs woods, rural vs deep woods I could go on... EX: If I practice shooting with my gun at 200 yards every week and shoot a nice buck at 300 yards I would say that was a good shot and my buddy would say that was a lucky shot you took at a walking deer quartering away... I shot a monster buck in the ADK in 2010... I found his track the day before and was LUCKY enough to catch up to him at mid day. I was also luck enough to call him back and get a perfect broadside shot on him. The several unlucky times I had with mature bucks after taking my 1st ADK buck in 2000 were unlucky times... Usually cause by user error resulting in bad luck for me and was part of the reason I was enveloped with taking a mature ADK buck. Still... Yes hard work, dedication to my sport, shooting, knowledge of trajectory, prey, extreme patience and the ability to track, hike, still hunt, read sign well and exploit it. The willingness to learn from any other hunter willing to share regardless of experience. Much of this has raised my level of hunting but I pray good luck follows me every year, I have had enough bad luck to write a book... Think I will write a good luck poem for bow hunting... Seem to be in a writing or typing mood... Will post under new topic. Good luck!!!

A few things to think about... 1) I get paid for the amount of gas I spend on travel expenses and IF you use your personal vehicle you should have some compensation for that. Company vehicle you should get reimbursed for your gas, save the receipt. I get 400$ a month for vehicle use plus gas receipts... I use my own truck... 2) When asking for a raise these are some of the things you need to make your point, NOT everyone is making what I make, I need more... a: Your value to the company: How efficiently you perform your job, handle co-workers and the customers- No one can do what you do as well as you do it!!! b: How much you have improved since your last raise. c: Economy and rising cost of living and expenses d: Even though it is a family company, act as an employee asking for a raise not a son or grandson c: Treat your boss/coworkers and above all customers with respect even if the person is out of control you will rise to the top... e: Do not ever say you will work harder if you get a raise, let them know you are working as hard as you can and are willing to improve and work on anything the boss feels is your week points... f: Be confident in your ability and the fact that you are worth every penny they pay you. g: Work hard, come in early and stay late when ever needed Confidence in your skills and your value to the company that you give should be rewarded. I hope you get a fat raise(If you do keep it to yourself, no one but you and the boss need to know what you make...) Be confident and list the things that you give to the company value as an employee and you should be ok. Good luck hope everything work out for you!!!
