Not sure if this is....
NFA-ADK replied to growalot's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I love when the liberals call us the wackos. Yet as this man has seen, when you take God, prayer and everything related to it out. THis is what you are left with. Emptyness. No person can prove that the GOD exists. Yet when things are bad, you have no money, are out of work, and gloom and doom is the only sight in your future, this is a salvation that saves many more than it does bad... We have told the good lord that we do not need him in our schools, our gov. our leaders. When emptyness fills our soul and nothing but bad can replace it if no other option is on the table... God bless AMERICA!!! Lord keep us shine on us and make us see your light for with out you we are nothing... Amen. God Bless you Mr.Darrell Scott -

I have like 15 still in the box, over the years I have purchased a few dif types. I like the fixed blade for my knocked arrow but I keep mechanical in my quiver. Up to 45 yards they both seem to fly straight for me with my old bow. Will test out the new bow soon... Fixed blades were hard to get out of the quiver and seemed a little more dangerous for still hunting with a back quiver...

Personaly I feel the age structure of NY's herds are very young. Will AR restrictions fix this? I do not know... The fact that you do not get to shoot a deer for a few years in your area should be of little consequenses, yet many make these AR restrictions a easy excuse to quite hunting, well guese what any excuse will work... This is a big state with much land for hunting, if you really need to bag a deer go to another area with NO restrictions... OR get involved and express your oppinion, start a group or join a group with similar intrest... I understand your complaints yet I feel most hunters could care less about the deer heard and are more concerned with being able to shoot a deer... And that is why I could care less about AR restrictions, personaly I feel they would help the heard... In so far as being in the woods with other hunters for other game, well I understand 1st hand why the bow hunters in FULL CAMO would not want a bunch or orange army guys hunting the same area and clipping off rounds. I was running out of the woods last year from other BO hunters... So yea personaly I feel they should separate seasons so you DO NOT have a guy in full camo with a bow and another guy with a shot gun next to his black powder hunting for bear. Instead of complaining I just go back deeper in the woods during the weekend warior days... You call this selfish yet I just feel most hunters are selfish and could care less about the heard, they just want to be able to shoot something... And if they can not, well then I will just quite seems to be the attitude... Sounds selfish to me... You call these AR restrictions harmfull but if NY hunters start to take a better class of deer in these area's and the animals get to a older age structor and the heard is healthy, well that's what I am about. No bucks to shoot at in your area? 35 members, ok do you have over 1000 achers to hunt at least? 35 people I would say you would need at least 3,000 mimimum. Or are you stuffing 35 hunters in a 300 acher lot? Then complaining thier are no deer to hunt? Just because you do not see deer does not mean they are not thier... I am sorry but if a AR restriction forces you to quite hunting in NY so be it... You were looking for a excuse anyway. ANd to say: "it cost to much to sit in the woods knowing they will not see a legal buck and with no doe tags to boot, they are going to look else where." Sounds like another excuse to stop hunting that area just because thier chances of shooting something are limited... With 35 people trampling all over your property I am not surprised you have people leaving... And that last statement is just a bunch of BS. Nothing in hunting is guaranteed, even the OTHER place they decied to hunt... Unless fence hunting is your thing...

In that condition it sounds like a awsome deal! Good luck with it, looking forward to pic of rifle and deer later on...

PS: when I say effectively that is referancing how accurate I am with this bow at long distance. If you can hit a CD 9 out of 10 times you are good at that range IMO...
-
My 1st bow had 3 pins and was good out to about 40 yards effectively. Target out to 50 yards. MQ1 Mathews. 70 lbs draw wieght, beman ICS hunter 400 Arrows New Helium is less wieght (big issue as I mainly stalk...) but effective range for this bow is out to 65 with 50 really being my limit. (Arrows really start to drop after 65...) ICS hunter 340's Four pins to 20 30 40 50. THe more you shoot the better you become. With 2 pins you should be OK out to 45 yards effectively and accuratly if you practice... Good luck, hope to see pictures later in the season of your success!!!

I agree w/NyHunter, try a few dif brands. You will probably find one that works good. I like Federal 300 grain but test the waters to see what your gun likes...

Small game hunting on Long Island
NFA-ADK replied to Stretcher Guy's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I do not think you can hunt with a shot gun on LI during deer season, except for the special Jan firearms season. I could be wrong so dont quote me on this... Each town has it's own ordanance so check with the local DEC, ranger or town hall for proper information. Better safe than arrested... -
Hello Sportsman, when I entered Mongaup Pond, I turned around and went to another camp site, talk about a commercial camping ground... I like to be in the woods when I camp, not a parking lot, great if you have kids though... Or a girl that wants a bathroom... Camping is about being in the woods and enjoying all nature has to offer. Arg I want a camp soo bad!!!

As long as the elevation is proper on the arrow rest I would just move the pin to 25, everything under 25 yards just aim a little low. Same reason not many bow hunters have a 10 yard pin, its just not needed. After you shoot your new bow and get use to the pin set up it will not be a issue. Just like anything its personal prefrence, you can add two smaller pins if needed but at those speeds you can just leave the 20 yard pin and compensate if you want. It is really up to you... I would set the second pin as close as possible at the next range you like. EX: If that second pin is as close as you can get it to the 20 yard pin and it hits that high, you can set it to 35 yards and compensate. I would double check the bow and make sure the arrow rest and string are set properly, you might have it off a little bit... If the arrow rest is OK then I would set a 15-25 and 35 pin it does not have to be 20 30 40... Or a 20, 35 45. That would be best for you I think. 20- 35 is realativly easy to judge IMO past that you want the pins. Good luck, hope this helps...

WT? Sounds like they are prepairing for dooms day, I though Obama was not afraid of the predictions... May be he was the one who started them to get this accomplished, WOW scary... -
Love reading all the stories guys and girls. Most importian point I would make is that many people seem to have hunting in thier blood, they just need a little nudge to get the blood flowing!!! 1)Hanging a deer in your yard might spark someone's interest. 2)Showing a real enthusiasm for hunting gets people asking me questions. I just can not hide it... 3)I offer many people free information on hunting and how to get involved, some jump at the chance others are not that interested. 4)Everyone hunts for differant reasons, some for the enjoyment of the outdoors, others for food, some for trophy and experiances with family and friends. Nothing wrong with any of those reasons and all are great to get us off the computers and into the woods. 5)While I have not heard of many things to get new recruits involved a couple sparked my intrest. a) The survival game: With all the dooms day predections coming around many people are seeking hunting as a usefull and legitamate survival tool. (Hunger games helped!!!) For once I can thank Hollywood... Best Idea I ever heard of was starting a survival course in our schools. Not only would this introduce hunting to our youth that does not have a mentor, it would give those with the hunting bug a chance to test the waters with out the need of a father, uncle or family member to make that happen. How can we get this accomplished? Anyone ever hear if this got off the ground? I heard it was in the works, just fear our liberals would reject such a proposal...

I have a arrow with bad fletching that goes in a circle down range. Wonder if you have any of those to try... I like the view of your knock path! Ahhh fun with technology...
-
Do it again from the profile view, that will look even better. Showing the shot from your right side and in front of you, might have to move the camera back a bit... I like the effect!!! Try to get the camera to have the full view in the picture so the arrow goes from one end of the picture to the other. Again cool shot!!! Hope to see a updated picture...

Been shooting my bow most of the year, will start to do single shots at bow range and do the course a few times for a work out, just need the mosquitos to calm down a bit... Jogging and cardio work outs for the hiking prep... Will start to shot the guns this week I hope, weather providing... Hitting airial/topo's hard and figuring out a game plan for the bucks... Need a new tent and water purifier for the early deep woods bow trip so need to do some shopping...
