  1. I don't do much small game hunting but... I do hunt deer. I have hunted Otis Pike this past year for the first time and it was a great break from my usual sightings in the ADK... Here is a link to get you started. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/40414.html Getting a bunch of guys together is your first step. You want to make sure you can trust the people you are getting involved with... Go to a rifle range or bow range is a great start... I go to Suffolk Archers and the Ridge rifle range. This way you can first judge the safety of the people you are getting involved with. Where you go for their is up to the crew involved. I have about 4 steady hunters and 5 not so interested hunters that go up to the ADK once a year for a week long hunting trip. This year with Sandy I had one companion for 3 full days out of 12... Snow started after he left and kept coming, only reason I had to leave... NFA Getsome!!! Good Luck Guys!
  2. And they wonder why we will not give up our guns. Ignorance is bliss... Shotgun easyer to shoot than a 223, LMAO that is a good one. I would like to have him fire 100 rounds from a 223 then do the same with 12 gauge 3.5 inch slugs and tell me which is easyer on the shoulder and to aim after the shot... Better yet I would love to see his wife shoot a double barrel shot gun and see how her follow up is... And they wonder why we object to their stupid feel good laws... Criminals do not obey the law, so they will have more than 5 rounds idiots!!! Wait untile they try to ban the shot gun and lever action when a criminal does a killing rampage with them... Happy I took up bow hunting, wonder when they will ban the bow... Knifes to follow... Then paper clips and nail clippers... I have no objections to better background check but this is crazy... "We can't enforce the laws we have so we had to create more." ??? Makes sence to them, I guese...
  3. God bless Joseph and family, my condolances.
  4. Cool video. I figure this buck was dominated by the dead one and saw his opportunity when his opponent was down. I thought a stick to hit him with would work, crazy how the gun shot did not phase him one bit. I would have been about 10 yards further back thats for sure! WoW! Then a womens voice calms the beast, hmmmmm. Very cool... Remember to watch your back after the buck is down, "Stupid Buck I shoulda shot you yesterday." LOL
  5. Seems the media is trying to leave out the part that the AR was never used... (This is coming as fact from many yet is kept hush hush.) In so far as facts, well they can be swept under the carpet to make an agenda. As of today it is ILLEGAL to sell your semi auto fire arm in NYS. If you do not believe me call any gun store and ask to purchase or send/recieve one... We have one year to get this law removed or everyone with one of these "banned" guns will be a criminal if they do not register... I do not believe the conspiracy BS but to say the media and the politicians did not use these kids to thier advantage is BS!!! Next time this happens with a lever action or a simple semi auto rifle they will make us register all guns. This way when the freedom of information act is used some idiot newspaper can publish all our addresses and the criminals will know where to get guns... Or when the Man wants to take all guns from us he will have our addresses... I hear Texas is a great place... They shoot back... And if you kill one of them they kill you right back... Plus the deer are awsome!!! Just a thought...
  6. Full time Hunter, I wish!!! Did auto repair for Chevy for 10 years, 3 years as a service advisor/assistant manager. Now I do computer repairs, field tech for 13 years.
  7. Deer take this year 0. To say this was a unsuccessful year would be a lie... I probably spent more time in the woods this year than any other year hunting and boy was it fun!!! I think I might post a hunting log for the year as I recorded most of my activity... Lets see a pic of your deer Grow!!!
  8. Nice deer, great story! I notice them rattle too. I have a new seat on them but I think maybe a small rubber band might work... They are a little noisy... Congrats! If you find a fix for the rattle let me know!!!
  9. Wow some amazing deer!!! I think I would have a hard time holding my bow steady on just about all of those deer. Would be fun trying!!! Sleep time, one more day for bow!!!
  10. My savage likes federal premium 165 gr. siera boat tail of any type of tip, the Nosler ballistic tips seem to give me my best groups and least amount of corrosion on long wet trips which can be very importian when a good cleaning is days or weeks away... I have had missfires with some other ammo years ago which is why I have always stuck with Federal Ammo for factory loads. With the exception of reloading, federal ammo was the most consistant ammo I have every shot... Try a few loads and see whats works best, like many have said each gun is dif and has it's prefered ammo. Let us know what you finally use, and good luck!
  11. NIce buck! Congrats, way to stick with it!!!
  12. Very cool, and the fact that you still got one, WOW. EXCELLENT!!!
  13. I do not shoot as often as I would like since they closes the local range. Usually I make about 3-5 trips to the rifle range to make sure the guns are true. Most of my shooting is done on the bench untile the last cleaning and test fire rounds before I go on my trip. Those last 10-20 rounds are free hand usually at the sand burm and some paper. (Sitting only as the range does not alow standing) I was always a good shot since I was a kid... Now I just need to get glasses, lol... Sucks when while you are hunting you discover you need glasses... Getting old sucks! I shoot my bow 2-4 times a week, I try to do it every other day weather permiting. Just came back from shooting thier and hunting a new property today in Riverhead. Trying to get my good friend and new hunter into his 1st deer!!! Hoping to post a success story soon as we just scoped the place today and it has some large tracks, rubs and we saw 3 doe at dusk! Good potential! Going for my 1st bow harvest as we are thier for population control!!!
  14. Couldn't agree with you more. Bases on what I saw in tracks I would say the wilderness area I hunt has a small stable population of mixed aged deer. The winters always worry me as they hit hard from the western boarder to east of albany and everything north. 7 inches of snow in inlet before I hit the road home and still snowing... Another reason I admire deer so much, they are TRUE surviviors!
  15. I could not shoot anything that looked somewhat human or ape like. I would just think it was another hunter in a suit... This type of paranoid delusional thinking is what is not needed in the woods.... but as long as they are only shooting with camera's, I say let them have at it.... Funny post!
  16. Cool pics, just goes to show how cruel nature can be. If I was up a stand with that under me thier would have been many dead wolves. Or at least one as I would prob have a bow... My predator competition will be eliminated any chance possible... And yes, I am nature to!!!
  17. Wow thats crazy, glade you are ok. Sucks for the guy w/the tacoma!!! Thank the lord for insurance!
  18. Very cool story, thanks for sharing!!! Congrats Jack on a beautiful buck and god bless your father for teaching you the ways of the woods. Very Cool!!!
  19. Welcome aboard!!! What are you interested in hunting, how long are you willing to travel and do you own any fire arms?
  20. At over a 1$ per bullet I shoot one at a time. But clipping a few rounds quickly can reduce stress, IMO. The rifle range I go to does not allow rapid fire... Besides taking a few target rounds at base camp, I usually return with all my ammo when hunting. Like you said Doc, it's a shame they did not drive anything towards you... Wait untile after the dooms day prediction fails, you will probably hear many people shooting the extra ammo they bought...
  21. Nice bucks! Shame you have to go through all this but as long as he makes good on the fix... Hopefully they will be OK... Hope things work out for you TreeGuy! Keep us posted!
  22. I would have to pass on him, not big enough, LOL. WOW what a brute, congrats on a very nice deer, awsome buck with a perfect rack WOW!!! I think you just shot the buck in my dreams...
