  1. I believe it's because some people have book multiple appoints in hopes of finding closer or sooner appointments then cancelling the ones they don't want. One upstate county was booked full and about half of those booked were over a 4 hours drive away and many failed to cancel or show. This sent the local health dept. into a scramble to utilize the thawed vaccine....
  2. That phrase alone draws suspicions...just sayin'
  3. Best of luck with the new rifle, I wish they'd log the Adirondacks in selected sections. The old growth forest offer limited browse down low. But that is an entire different topic... Hamilton County has few deer, but big deer and opportunities to hunt days/weeks without seeing another sole.
  4. If it's on the internet it must be a true and accurate information source....
  5. A friend of mine is a career ICU critical care nurse and administrator/provider now for an infusion center that administers the newest high tech drugs for cancer, Parkinsons, and arthritis patients; she administers these to most critically ill. She has constant contact with the doctors, pharmacists and manufacturers of such drugs. This "science" and style of vaccine has been around for years in the high tech drug world. This is how it was manufactured in months instead of years and can be "tweeked" as variants crop up or if a new pandemic arises in the future. She has isolated herself and worked 12 hour days because she's single and could "self isolate" as to not possibly infect her patients for almost a year now. She said she would be the first in line when she could take a covid vaccine and had no reservations about the science behind it. She said she had much greater fear of the disease and it's possible ramifications. She treated ICU Covid patients that seemingly were healthy and young that died while hospitalized. One was 50 years old, healthy other than high blood pressure and was exposed at a Christmas party. He denied he was Covid positive until the day he died; he had mild symptoms for a short period then his organs began to literally shut down and his blood oxygen level plummeted and he died. They attempted CPR but he succumbed to Covid, this was like many of the patients she treated. Sad I hear some say, "well more people die of the flu", "its like getting the sniffles" and other nonsense statements. Bottom line is there are so many false stories about this disease and vaccines....believe my story or not. My friend is one of the toughest and brightest woman I know and respected in the medical community locally, if she was afraid of this disease, and not the vaccine then I heed that warning...
  6. The state vigorously promotes the Adirondacks and hiking trails, meanwhile they removed old structures for "wilderness" experience of forever wild and create a major overflowing parking issue and solid waste in and around the popular trails is a major gross issue. The trails around Marcy, Algonquin and more common peaks are simply littered with human crap and paper even directly on the trails....
  7. There is so much misinformation regarding these vaccines; my two cents. It's a personal choice but that choice may and can affect others depending on if one gets infected and spreads the virus. I'm considered high risk due to several health issues and spoke at length with my primary; 1. the vaccine can not and does not alter one's DEA 2. at this point millions have safely received the vaccine as millions have safely recovered from the virus itself. Some I personally know have had mild symptoms (sniffles) and others have been seriously ill and hospitalized. Younger and better healthy fair better as with most illnesses.... 3. I had the first Pfizer and only had a small red and warm reaction at the actual injection site; no different than any other injection. 4. I expected a more "robust" response from the second and not a true "reaction:, I had a mild headache shortly after injection and about 24 hours later had a short period (3-4 hours) of chills and a mild fever, all were fully expected by my doctor and were very tolerable. It was simply my body doing it's job and mounting a response as the vaccine was designed. I actually felt mentally less stressed about the virus know my body did what it was supposed to. Hope this helps !!!
  8. I qualified through work, however local health network, county public health all directed me to the state site. The state site was a major PIA, however I was awake late one night as they posted single appointments and they were quickly taken up almost as soon as posted. I assume they were cancellations as they were singles. I kept refreshing and was able to reserve a appointment within two days, it was two hours drive but I felt worth it....it feels almost like winning the lottery when your able to get one.... Best of luck..
  9. Big woods hunting is very different from western New York, deer in the big woods are tougher to pattern as food sources vary greatly, it often requires many travel miles on foot in rough terrain. It helps to have a small amount of snow to successfully track, but not deep snow to impeded travel on foot. Terrain can be rugged and vary from hardwoods, big blow downs to swampy areas and dense hemlocks and alders. Also, one will simply not see the volume of deer seen in other areas. There is a bunch of followers here that love the big woods challenges....... It's a challenge but rewarding and can put some big Adirondack deer on the ground... Best of luck out there....
  10. I grew up slogging through that Adirondack mud and fishing backwoods beaver dams and stained water streams. Maybe I'll add brook trout fishing to my list for this year in more frequency. I remember when the limit was 10 trout and one could fill that any given day with some small bullhead throw into the mix. My grandmother had an electric fry pan that cooked may a trout that were so fresh they curled as the cooked....and my grandfather, being from Utica, sat on the porch drinking Utica Club or Carling Black Label beer from a can...
  11. Buckmaster, That's awesome and I hope you make it happen..
  12. Great county; but sadly growing and big influx of seasonal buying last summer, about two out of three vehicles were from another state.... Hope snows out early and the trout are active before the full on black fly season commences....and I'm setting the 870 sights on that gobbler come May.
  13. Moog, I'm sorry to hear your budding enterprise has been hampered by the pandemic at this point; best wishes and may we have future business ventures...... Until then I'll collect my pocket debris and dream of a free economy and await a democratic bail out.. Best regards, Salmon
  14. Congrats !! I retired after 32 years of law enforcement at 55 years old and its been 5 years now...you'll enjoy every minute of it. I miss some of the coworkers but not the job...you'll wonder how you ever got anything done as time and days fill quickly. Best wishes, Dan

  18. No, there is not a single traffic signal in Hamilton County, and I appreciate the responses here and glad to hear some of us are looking ahead. I, too may do some turkey hunting at my location, last spring I had a gobbler walk right by camp gobbling away the entire time within minutes of me shutting off a chainsaw..... Best of luck and lets update on our plans as the spring and summer approach....
  19. The month of March has more days in it every year I get older it seems...... Stay positive and spring is coming.
  20. Does anyone have any plans/changes for the 2021 big game season in the big woods? Locations, style of hunting, camp additions, new gear/rifle or others... I'd like to exercise more before the season and maybe insulate the cabin floor before next November..
  21. It's wild when one can't figure out what sex they are, identify as, and sure as hell wild when one feels they are a trans-species.... There are NOT enough check boxes on forms to answer that one.....
  22. Sad and satirical as that sound she is entitled to any "special accommodations" in todays world. I seriously can't make this up....
  23. Yep, described as "otherkins" or "trans-species", her rights can't be stepped on and she identifies as a fox and the school district must accommodate her beliefs or wishes.
