  1. Welcome!! I won't argue with that . . .
  2. Welcome and good luck hunting. You found a great forum.
  3. I found this interesting video on youtube on how to cape and skin your deer to prep the cape for head mounting.
  4. Nice!! Send some down this way to Germantown. Don't see them that big here. Where is the Yote in the pictures?
  5. My philosophy of hunting has always been - meat first, rack is a bonus.
  6. Where I hunt they don't get that big. Lots of farms around and the farmers put them down to prevent crop damage. My first buck was a 6 and I only mounted the scalp and crown. There are some larger 6 and 8 pts around but rare to see them this big. So yes I would mount him without thinking.
  7. I wouldn't think twice. He would fill up my freezer and an empty space on my wall.
  8. Just tell the client "something suddenly came up" ala Marcia Brady . . .
  9. I would love to mount a nice deer head myself. I mount all my own turkey fans. How difficult is it to do an actual deer head mount yourself and how long would it take to do?
  10. Depending on what time of day I'm sitting out on the stand I may bring my Nook. Although I try to read to make the time go faster till sundown, I would read a sentence or two and then look up and scan the fields. I'll look down again and read another two sentences and then scan the field. I don't get very far reading. Sometimes I'll just go on this site and bide my time.
  11. Well those dang birds found another place to sleep tonite. But I did see a nice symmetrical 6 PT only 10 feet directly in front of my setup. He stood there for about 2 mins. Too bad it wasn't next Saturday. He would have been skewered.
  12. All set up waiting for those birds to start coming to roost above me.
  13. Well this morning I'm walking over to a stand where we found them ugly birds roosting. As I'm walking they are yelping at each other. I get into my stand not even 20 mins later 2 hens fly down. Took safety off, wait for them to get into my shooting lane, boom! Missed the first. Chamber another shell aim boom- missed the second. They are still in field at 30 yds. Go to chamber another and freaking gun jams on me. Could not get another shell into chamber. By then they were gone. There had to have been at least 20 birds roosting above me. I was so disgusted with myself. Waited another half hour. The rest flew down but far into the woods. I left disgusted. At least I know where they roost. Trying again this afternoon and tomorrow morning.
  14. 84 deg in Germantown. Way too hot to be sitting in a vinyl covered blind.
  15. No sign of my ugly friends this morning. Sitting in my blind now hoping they'll show like yesterday around 4 pm.
  16. There is an attach this file button but the choose file button is faded and not active.
  17. Thanks. Do you know how to upload pictures or video from iPhone onto this forum? I can't figure it out and I've spent 3.5 hrs in my blind trying to figure it out. Uggggg!
  18. I'm sitting in my turkey blind waiting for those ugly birds to show their heads and biding my time reading this forum. Thank God for technology.
  19. Homemade wine with dinner and a 20 y.o. Cognac with cigar
  20. After a long afternoon hunt and a big dinner, I'm hanging on the deck staring at the stars and the moon having a nice cigar thinking about tomorrow's hunt. It doesn't get better than this!
  21. Haven't seen any yet. But I know from the local farmer there are a couple of nice 6 and 8 pointers hanging around. Can't wait till next weekend!!
  22. Private land in Germantown. Saw 6-7 birds off to my right 25 yds all following each other but way too much brush to shoot over. Now I know where I'm gonna set up tomorrow morning.

    Shaving

I grow a goatee a couple months before 10/1 and shave it on my last day of hunting in December. The wife and kids aren't crazy about it but they get used to it. They always tell me to shave it off all season. Then when I do it at the end of the season they ask me why did I shave it. Damned if I do, damned if I don't!
  24. On the road heading up to my hunting camp for a 4 day turkey hunt. Hope to fill 2 tags this weekend. Good luck to whoever is doing the same and be safe.
