  1. I hunt in Germantown on private land. Hoping to see some black bear this season.
  2. I switched from the whisker biscuit to the NAP Apache because my fletchings were getting torn with the biscuit. Now with the Apache I'm shooting with FOB's and I set up the rest the way Centerpunch said and it works great without any contact.
  3. I find fall turkey hunting to be more challenging than spring turkey hunting. As G-Man says it is 90% woodmanship, 5% calling and 5% luck in the fall even though I've taken more fall turkeys when bowhunting for deer in October than in the spring.
  4. Well I headed to my hunting grounds this past weekend with my son and father in law to check on the stands and set up some cameras. Much to my chagrin there was so much water all over the place especially in the areas where I wanted to set up my cameras. The farm road leading to the fields were almost under water and other areas were full of mud. Perfect way to get my jeep stuck. Only way would be to cut through fields and fields of corn stalks. So instead I enjoyed the nice weather sitting on the deck glassing the fields and swatting huge mosquitos and watching the sunsets. At least I was able to sight in my bow at 10, 20, 30 & 40 yds. I also showed my son how to collect fresh eggs. Hopefully by end of this month the fields will dry up enough so that I can get out to the fields and check my stands and set up the cameras.
  5. Glad to hear you are all safe. I travel the Taconic Pkwy to and from my hunting cabin. Once you get into Putnam County, it goes from 3 lanes down to 2 narrow winding lanes. I always fear of breaking down in that area, not to mention the sporadic cell service.
  6. That is too funny! I remember my first time. I was gutting a 6pt with my bro in law and we were able to gut the deer almost without incident. But as we pulled the guts out and dumped it into the wheelbarrow it let out such a loud and smelly fart in our direction. We stunk for hours after that. Not as funny as the guy in the video though.
  7. Dicks still has the sale on the swamp buck. $99 with a $20 mail in rebate. I got one couple of weeks ago and had another $20 coupon I used. So I got it for about $59.
  8. Amen brother. It's the best working for yourself! I schedule all my appointments with clients mid-week during hunting season so I can take long weekends and get some hunting done.
  9. Thanks for the info and link Eddie. $150 is not a bad price. Unfortunately that one was sold. But you got me thinking to check these gun broker sights online.
  10. I inherited a Winchester 1200 12ga pump shotgun. It has a home defender barrel on it. I would like to change the barrel to a rifled deer barrel. I've searched high and low on the internet and can't find one less than $200. Anyone know where I can get one for a reasonable price?
  11. Enjoy! Sounds like a hunt of a lifetime.
  12. My hunting camp in 4Y. Cornfields and water sources.
  13. Picked up some Code Blue Time release scent today and going up this weekend with my 10yo son to check my stands, cameras and make some scrapes. Will be doing some glassing as well.
  14. Same with me. First time in 6 years turned down in 4Y but got 1C which I rarely hunt. Got a preference point for next year.
  15. I've been married to a woman who's father, brother and brother-in-law have tried to get me into hunting for nearly 20 years and I finally got hooked 6 years ago. My wife grew up in a hunting family and she is used to it. She has even suggested that I take my father in law and my 10 y.o. son pre-season to check on the stands and blinds. Do I go hunting every weekend during the season? Of course not! Do I wish I can do that? Of Course I do!!! As far as in-laws are concerned, my mother in law taught me how to cook venison and wild turkey. Better still, when we all go hunting she comes along and cooks for us. It doesn't get better than that. I guess hunting has not negatively affected my life. In fact it has allowed me and my son to bond. My son loves it as you can see in the pictures.
  16. I just got the NAP Apache stabilizer 8". Coming from a 4" to 8" made a world of difference for me and helps me hold at full draw longer and steadier. It was $40 at Dick's
  17. Enjoy! I bought my PSE Deerhunter online a few years ago and had it tuned and adjusted at C & B in Hicksville. Ralph did a good job.
  18. Welcome! I'm a Nassau guy but hunt upstate.
  19. To add my 2 cents, most of the areas east of the Hudson have fields and fields of corn and soybean that are usually planted by local farmers for purposes of growing feed for various animals. Does the corn and soybean attract deer? Sure it does but I don't think that's the main reason why its planted. Many locals in my area have a lot of acreage but they do not have the capabilities or equipment to farm the land so they rent it out to local farmers who plant and harvest the corn/soybeans. The stalks are usually up through November and they are harvested in the middle of firearm season. The area that I hunt had corn a few years back, last year soybean was planted and this year there is corn growing now. I guess I've been lucky enough to have this food source around.
  20. So, can I give your son a couple liters of Mountain Dew and turn him loose in my hunting area? Sure. I'll start renting him out for a small reasonable fee . . .
  21. I have never heard of canning or jarring cooked venison. I normally vaccumn seal and freeze it to get me through the year. I just defrost and soak whatever portions I choose with water, white vinegar and salt. How long does it last in the sealed jars/cans?
