It was definitely worth the grand you spent!

I applied in 4Y and did not get it this year but got 1 preference point. After 6 years this was the first time I didn't get my preference.

Awesome job!! I can't wait to film my own hunt this season. Hopefully I'll be posting a successful one . . .
-
Really nice!! What did that set you back if you don't mind me asking?
-
Thanks Elmo. Looks interesting. Wonder how much weight it adds to the bow though? And now that I found out that Bowmounted rangefinder is legal in NY I don't want too much weight on it.

Nice job!

Elmo, Funny you said that, i usually do the same thing (turn my hat around) just before the shot. I bought a minicam that you can attach to your bow, stand or lid last year. While in my stand, I had this minicam attached to the lid of my hat on a screw similar to a tripod mount. But I didn't turn my hat around hoping to capture the shot. Well during my attempt to shoot at a coyote that was about 30 yds from my stand, I found out after shooting that the cam somehow got loose and turned around on its own just before i took the shot. I had some great film of the tree i was standing in. I vowed never to put it on my lid again.

I was going to say Bigfoot lol

I agree with Lawdwaz. There has got to be more to the story.

I agree. I have a Toshiba pocket HD camera with LCD screen. I am going to buy a tree arm and attach it. I've tried attaching to my bow and to my rifle/shotgun but it really never points in the direction you want it to. I also have an older JVC camcorder which I'm going to attach to my gun rail. This way I'll have two angles - one facing the field and one facing me to get my reaction.

The concern with the Leupold Vendetta was that in order to site it in to your first pin (20yds) you need to hold the button for a 10 sec count down. Then it emits a red laser similar to a Crimson trace laser in order to help you site it in. Once sited in you depress the button for a 5 sec countdown and it turns the laser off. That is why in my inquiry to DEC I specifically mentioned the brand and type of rangefinder. I'm gonna be packing the response in my pack and wallet just in case.

Does not apply to me. I hunt for meat. If I get a nice rack, it's a bonus.
-
I was wondering about that too!

According to the instructions you need to align the red dot laser with your first pin usually at 20 yds. Once aligned then all you need to do in the field is put that pin on the animal press the button and you get your yardage and then use the appropriate pin. The only hassle is mounting the rangefinder so that the eye is not blocked by anything and that it doesn't block you peep site and view if the pins. Not always easy to do. You need to experiment with placement.

My pleasure. Now I just have to go through the hassle of remounting and siting in the rangefinder again.

I'm way ahead of you Wildcats. Already printed and shoved in my wallet and in my pack.

Yesterday I sent an email to the DEC regarding use of the Leupold Vendetta bow Mounted range finder. Below is my email and their response. Hello Mr. Masiakos, Thank you for your inquiry. Please be aware that there is no prohibition on mounting a rangefinder to a bow or crossbow. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Aphrodite Montalvo Citizen Participation Specialist NYSDEC Region 1 50 Circle Road Stony Brook, NY 11790 [email protected] (631) 444-0350 >>> <[email protected]> 9/18/2011 12:20 PM >>> Hi, I am inquiring as to whether or not it is legal to use the Leupold Vendetta bow mounted rangefinder for hunting purposes in New York State. This rangefinder mounts on a bow and is triggered with the press of a button similar to a basic rangefinder. This one allows the user to range objects while at full draw. I understand that the regulations set forth that no artificial lights, lasers or mechanical devices may be used on a bow. However, my research has resulted in different answers on various hunting and bow hunting forums and I am confused as to whether this particular rangefinder can be used in New York for hunting purposes. Thank you in advance for your anticipated courteous attention and prompt response. Very truly yours, Jordan Masiakos

That is funny. Talk about "playing possum"!

I hope I see some in 4Y this season . . .

I've had the Mossberg 525 pump with turkey and waterfowl barrel for about 5 years. Never had an issue with it except for the shell feeder. It occasionally does not feed the shell unless I pump it with a little bit more force. Overall I've taken some nice gobblers with it.

That's awesome! I can wait to get my 10 y.o. son to start bowhunting with me. First time last year with a recurve.

THE MIRACLE OF TOILET PAPER... don't try this at home ;)

Love it!! -
Knowing my luck I think I'm gonna pick up a b/u release this weekend. @Elmo, I always hurl insults at the deer especially when I take a shot and they're not standing still
-
I never thought of having a backup release. I guess it's not a bad idea to have one.

I agree. I always do it myself. You don't know what or how much you'll get back from the butchers. Invest in a good meat grinder and a food saver and you're set.
