  1. Congrats on first buck with bow!
  2. I agree with WNY, as long as the fawns don't have their spots then I would take the momma.
  3. Great job all! Can't wait to join in. Hopefully this coming weekend I'll be posting some nice pictures and filling the freezer.
  4. Oh man! I would be kicking myself in the arse if that happened to me. Then I would continue to the local archery shop by my cabin and pick up a set of arrows and beg and plead with the owner to get them ready for me while I wait.
  5. Yeah. I guess I'm lucky that it's just a sprain. I know it could have been a lot worse. Someone was watching over me. Foot is still sore. So I decided to stay home this weekend and finish what I started when I hurt myself last week. Spent the day cleaning out my shed and wood burning stove. Unfortunately I could not get on my pitched roof to clean out my chimney. Thats gonna have to wait till my foot gets stronger. Planning on next weekend to go up. I'm dying to get into my stand.
  6. Not bad for using self timer. Usually when I take self timed shots my head is cut off
  7. I have my 10 1/2 year old son bugging me constantly about going hunting with me. I tell him "you have to wait just another 1 1/2 years but you need to mature a bit more before I put a loaded weapon in your hands". Sometimes he acts like a 5 y.o.

Good question. I think we all assumed Dom's talking about a trail cam.
  9. Haven't been back there since that time. It was around middle - end of November when we went. It may have just been on the specials that time. Now we frequent the Redhook Diner between Stewart's and CVS on route 9. Unfortunately have not had any venison there yet.
  10. I use Federal Fusion 185gr 30-06 in my Remington 710. I've tried the Corelok 150gr, Hornady 165 gr. all at the same distance and always off by 2-3". I'm always dead on with the Federal no matter what. Last buck I took at 175 yds with the Federal - double lung and heart shot, he ran not even 20 yards into thick brush. When I got down to track him, the amount of blood i saw, he was dead before he hit the ground. It was like a scene out of a horror flick.
  11. That's a great diner - had my first taste of venison chilli at that diner when I first went up with my bro-in-law to look into buying property up in that area in 2006. Now that we bought property, and have a house to stay in, we cook our backstraps at the house.
  12. Often times I am asked why do you hunt? and occasionally I'll get - its a sin to murder innocent animals. I put on my most serious face and tell them: I hunt because I enjoy spending the time outdoors and being one with nature and most importantly closer to God. I tell them to read the Bible Genesis 1:26 where God gave man dominion over the fish in the sea and over every creeping thing. The Bible further went on to very clearly indicate which kinds of animals were fit for human consumption, and deer were among them. And so I tell them, very plainly then, hunting and killing animals for food cannot be wrong or a sin. Every time I go hunting I try to remember to say the following prayer - " The Deer Hunter's Prayer " - by Dale Sunderlin Heavenly father, to you I pray, A majestic deer may come my way. Let my aim be straight and true, this my Lord, I pray to you. A swift clean kill is what I ask, Take his spirit swift and fast. For his last breath should not be, One of pain or agony. Let his soul, Come to Thee, To roam your heavens, Wild and free. ------------------------------------ And no I'm not a Bible thumping Christian - I was just raised to be thankful and praise God for everything that he provides to me and my family.
  13. We hit this diner at lunch sometimes. Good sized portions and pretty cheap. http://historic-village-diner.com/

Operating systems are either Windows or Mac (two major ones). All you need is a camera like the Bushnell Trophy Cam that takes SD cards ($10 @ Radioshack) and a SD Card reader that you plug into your USB port on the computer and you should be able to open up the pictures that are on the SD card onto your computer. If your computer already has a built in SD Card reader then you don't need the separate reader.
  15. Welcome! You found a great forum.
  16. . . . you know you come from a hunting family when you call home from your camp and the first words out of your son's mouth is "Did ya get one and how big is it?"
  17. Wow! Did you read the article? Nice to see that the majority of people who commented are all for Jake's accomplishment. The first and third comments about seeing dead animals or "murdered" animals on the front page were exactly the opposite of what they said - not starting an anti-hunting debate. I like the idea about the insurance companies paying us hunters to reduce the population of deer.
  18. Welcome to the forum! You will find a good group and a lot of good information here.
  19. Great job! Good start to filling the freezer. BTW crack a smile next time . . . You should be happy.
